20.1 phase shift

im pretty sure its for if u had ur wires crossed on the sub...

ie... u swapped the + and - when u hooked it up to the amp, and the sub is movin in the reverse direction

ps

maybe lol, i never touched it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It's there for general use.

There is no one specific scenario.

Atleast, I wouldn't think it would be there for any one specific scenario. I guess I'm not the designer, so I can't say for 100% certainty what went throught their or IA's mind on why to include it. But, you can use it for general purposes and it does not need to be used in any one particular scenario.

In some installations, reversing the phase of the subwoofer will acheive the best performance (blending best with your setup, etc). In which case, it's simply easier to flip a switch/turn a knob to do so as opposed to swapping wires.

Also, to clarify....it doesn't really make the sub move "backwards"...it reverses the peaks and valleys in the signal, thus "reversing" when the sub excurts outward and inward in relation to the original signal on the CD and also the other speakers in the car.

Out of curiousity is it just a switch (as in either 0 deg. or 180 out) or is it continuously variable (as in knob going anywhere from 0-180)? If it's a knob it's more useful for tuning but really only if you know what you're doing with the phase.

An easy way to go would just be to have someone adjust it while you sit in the car and listen--tell them to stop when it sounds loudest/best to you. (The reason you have to be in the car is because fooling with the phase will make it so the sub(s) sounds different at a distance and in relation to the other speakers in the car.)

An even easier thing to do would be to just leave it at 0*, lol.

switch the phase once every few weeks, you will notice a difference. i can do it from my hu, which makes hearing the difference easier, but you will need to get used to the way it all sounds first, and then switch it.when you know which way sounds best to you, leave it there.

It is used when strapping two IA20.1's one amp will be in phase the other out of phase
ive never used it for that, and ive strapped my fair share of 20.1s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif... Maybe u know something i dont?
