you would be happy with either woofer(s). i personally like doing single woofer set ups.

1k on 2x 8s will have more cone area

I have had both actually, not much of a difference to be honest. It's going to come down to the box more than the sub.

Does the mtx or the sundown have better sound quality?

I put 2 sundown sa8's in a sinful prefab box.... I was extremely pleased with the sound quality of the subs in that box. It was a cheap 70 buck ebay box. The 9500 I had in a generic 12 box I had built. Standard 2.5 cubes tuned to 32 with a slot. I would have chosen the 8's for everyday listening. The mtx definitely had some authority at times but the sa's just felt smooth and refined and got loud enough. Almost like a louder tang band 8 lol

with only the 1000w you would not be putting the 9500 to its full potential. in the right enclosure that sub can flat out pound. i run 1800 each for my pair.

That's not a surprise the mtx can handle that much lol but what's ur electrical set up with the 9500s
