2 subs 2 amps vs 2 subs 1 amp

is there a down side to having two identical subs with two identical amps?

one sub hooked to one amp and another sub to another amp, running in the same box.

heard both ways, that the amps, even though are the same, will put out a couple watts difference, which will throw off the subs a little, not enough to REALLY notice, but, their not at their full potential. then someone else told me, don't matter, same amp, same power, set same gain, no problem.

?????????????

well if you have two subs to one amp, the impedence to that amp would be halved due to 2x the coils in parallel I'd assume, compared to two amps two subs. You may see a similar # from one amp @ 1/2 the imp as two amps on two subs, due to less elec strain, power compression if the sub cant handle the one amp to its fullest, etc.

I like having one or more amps per sub, myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

If your going to run 1 amp to 2 subs, you will see more box rise, whereas if you run 2 amps strapped to 2 subs, the amplifiers will share the rise effectively reducing the amount of rise the amp sees. All of this of course can be accounted for when designing the system, but it is just food for thought.

Also if your going to run 2 amps and not strap them, make sure the gains are set with a DMM or O-scope, or you will have some cancellation.
