2 RF 12" HX2 subs and RF Power 800.2 (not as loud as they should be)

I just got these, the subs dont sound blown. They are wired so the amp should put out 800wrms x 1 bridged. The problem is, they sound weaker than my 2 10" Type E's connected to a 460 watt dual amp.

Does it sound like the gains are turned all the way down??? There are no bass boost knobs on the amp, ther is a plugin for a bass control, do i need that piece to turn it up.

Update: I just connected another amp i have lying around, MA Audio M700XE ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6561_MA+Audio+M700XE.html ) which i believe is a little less powerful than the RF 800.2 and with the gain and bass boost turned halfway up, and the subs THUMP like crazy, so does it sound like i need to mess with the gain on the Rockford amp??

I would think you wired them wrong the first time. Or the amp is set wrong!

Does your amp have a low pass crossover, or a Subsonic filter? Quite possible they are not set right.

the filters are set right. I have them set for low pass. I think the gains might be set wrong, but the knobs for those seem to be missing.

You're saying there is no gain knob whatsoever on the amp? Weird. If there isn't, but there is a spot for a remote bass knob, then you need the knob to adjust the gain. Don't use bass boost. It only adds distortion. If the box is correctly designed for the sub, you'll have a flat frequency response, so no bass boost should be needed.

What is the lowpass crossover set at? If it is set too low you won't get some of the bass.

your problem is your sealed enclosure....

Rockford Power HX2 subs ""****"" in sealed enclosures

they need a ported enclosure

if they are the punch HX2's you need 2.0cf3 per sub plus

sub and port dissplacement

and if they are the power HX2's you need 2.5cf3 per sub plus

sub and port dissplacement....

I would tune them around 34-35hz and give each sub no less

than 26sq inches of port area

how importaint is it for the subs to be in a vented enclosure. How much of a difference is there in sound by having the box tuned right?

alright....i turned the gains up using a very small screwdriver and it sounds much louder. I still think I need the Bass Control knob so i can add Bass Boost.

Put it in a well designed ported box and you will be more satisfied.

will putting the subs in a ported box make a big difference?? does the box have to be the right size and be tuned correctly for it to sound good??

Definitely the HX2's are pretty much made for a ported enclosure. My 2 15's were originally in a sealed enclosure and when I got my new car I upgraded to a ported box and they pound so much harder.
