I have two polk audio MM 1040 10" subs, in a 2.3 cubic foot box, tuned to 32hz.

amp is an AQ1200D wired to 2 ohms, pushing 870 watts to the subs.

what would u guess i meter?

its just a daily setup, sounds good, but not too loud. wondered where u guys think it would meter and how it compares to a 150 db setup. its a big deal to hit 150 it seems, so wonder where i stand with some basic SQ 10s of a big name brand, and not DC or sundown

I did 136@56hz on two twelves@1200 watts in a prefab enclosure. I'd say that's prob where you are. It starts getting tricky trying to get into the 140-145's.

I should be over 140 now, but you'd be surprised what it takes to get over 140.

Oh yeah a lot depends on vehicle.

with that tuning youll probably be in the 135 range, respectable and loud my the average persons standards, but your nowhere near the 150 point, im currently building a 150 attempt consisting of a single 15 on 5k tuned to around 50hz. it takes a lot for 150.

im not going to try and hit 150 or anything, i was just wondering how far away i was and wondering why 150 is so hard, and/or such a big deal.

@ill ridge, two 12s off 1200 watts and u only got 136? what subs? seems like u should have hit higher imo

since everyone is putting what they did, i was doing 140 legal with a single 12 and 1500 watts at 40 hz.

and the reason 150 is big, is thats were the vast majority of ppl fall of the wagon. once you get into the mid to upper 140s your every aspect of you system becomes crucial, you box more than anything, and that only applies more the higher you go.

i did 135.4 so u guys were pretty spot on.

my dad came with me, and he isnt a bass head or anything, but i threw out the idea of porting my other subs i have sitting around (rockford fosgate p2 12s) and building a ported box, see what they can hit. he seemed sorta interested because he doesnt thing 150 is hard (not to say he thinks the rockfords will hit it or anything). but he runs the same subs so we both curious how loud they will get. they would only see 510 watts, so its down from the 870, but its 2 12s, and depending on what we decided, we would either tune low so we could use the box for an install, or tune to the peak of my truck to get higher #s

we seen a 152.8, that was the highest.

side note, what does a 12w7 meter? i got a buddy with one, and while i dont care for jl or anything, if im sitting in parking lot beside him, i have to crank mine pretty loud to hear mine lmao

Because every 10db equals twice as loud. So ,in therms of SPL, 135 is weak **** compared to 150.

True rule of thumb is 6db's is an acoustically doubling of air pressure swept. So if your subs and port move 3 liters of air every second to add 3dbs to that pressure reading you'd need to move 6liters of air. 150-136=14db. So like 5 of your systems amps, subs and all jammed into the car woudl technically move that much air. Granted that messes up your cabin gain and so in the real world that might not be a 150. However, in terms of response outside the car, you literally do need 5 of your systems so 10 polks and 16,000 watts of power would be a 150ish given your current system effeciency.

Who cares what the w7 will hit. Take comfort in the fact he paid out the anus for his generic name brand setup that could be done (better..) for a quarter of the price.

The Polk's should be nice though, and who cares about the numbers. SPL != Loudness. Still dont think many people understand this.

It also depends a lot on the box, every aspect of it, and not to mention cabin acoustics. Theres a reason people specify where and that frequency they metered at.. every car and location (kick, dash) is different.

Hell, just rolling down your window gives a nice different.
