so i was making some new door baffles yesterday for my new mids. that all goes well and good.

install time. i remove my door panel and take out the old speaker. remove the clips for the old speaker. re-strip the wire. connect the wire to the new speaker and mount it.

time to test it. i turn the key on and the rear speakers (HU power) and the sub both come on. nothing from the 4ch up front. so i take the speaker back out, and re-check my connections. all good.

now i go back to my amp and check my fuses. both are good so i'm like WTF?? so i go back and try it again and get nothing.

i look at the other side of the 4ch amp and see that the red "protect" light is on. thats always a problem, so i look at the other side and notice somehow the NEG cable has come off of the amp. no big deal i think, so i hook it back up. there was no sparks/arcing of any kind.

now i turn the radio on and the left side is working, but not the right (the side i had out). once again i check my connections, and i swap the L rcas for the R rcas. same problem. Now i break out the DMM and test at the right speaker that i have out. Nothing there, and nothing at the amp either. The left side is working fine.

i think i have it narrowed down to 2chs of the amp being shot. but i have no idea how/why they are. anyone think it could be something else?

CLIFFS: i unhook a speaker and now only 2 of 4 channels works on my amp

if you pull battery negative before any work, you don't have these issues....

You make a mistake and learn from it. Your fuses should have blown to protect the amp, but in your case they didn't.
