I wanna use a 15" type-R in a home stereo setup. Anyone know of an amp that can do 800+RMS at either 2 or 8 ohms?

The only thing i could think of was the behringer ep2500, but thats 1200(or 1400?) x2 @ 2 ohms, and i would only use one channel. Kind of a waste

any ideas?

x2 on the crown. Awesome amps. That Behringer is a P.O.S. and does nowhere near rated power.

Also, craigslist. A lot of old stereo amps put out a lot of power and can be wired to two ohms.

Tell me why it is a bad idea to use a SMPS to power? I design, build, and sell SMPSs every once in a while, used to be my old hobby. For my HT system I use one myself. There is no problem, just don't go by the "max" rating of the Computer SMPS. It will be rather expensive to get one that is able to do what you're wanting, and will be the only easy route to stay on a SMPS since you probably won't know how to use the power supplies in parallel or increase their voltage out to 14.4V.

There is not a problem only if you get a sufficiently large enough SMPS to suit what you need.

PM me for more information if you're interested.

Edit: Crown is the best one out of the above selection.

Edit 2: Going from 120(or 240) to 14V, then stepping it back up to a higher voltage is inefficient though. Only thing I can think of.
