2 ohm component recommendations

is there? huh ...my bad.

.... anyway, i have a RF Power1000 that'll do 50w x 4 @ 4ohms or 100w x 4 @ 2 ohms. I've not put a system in a car since I was a teenager and thought I throw two 10's and some new components up front and replace the stock 4x6's in the rear. It seemed to make sense to me to take advantage of the amps capabilities and give it a 2 ohm load.

I'm all ears for any reason NOT to do this, I just can't think of any. A third party amp testing group I read about on the net indicated that the Power1000 was just as clean at 2ohm, and that was the only worry I had.

I also wanted to make sure the mids and hi's would keep up with the subs.

The car is an '85 Porsche 911 Coupe and electronic music is played predominantly. Who knows, maybe I have way too much amp for such a small space. Anyway.... thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

ps. the amp has a 5th channel that'll do 600w x 1 @ 2ohms. Planning on two 4ohm 10's in parallel.

I've heard lots of good things about those Image Dynamics components..... serious mid-bass output. Pricey!

Ah...the used Infinity's for $120.... there's a new set on ebay at the moment for $67 + 20 shipping..... sorry man!

After all my research I seem to have an aversion to Infinity's.... I wonder if it is because they are so prevalent or maybe the low cost subconsciously implies lower quality? Or maybe it's because the ones that came with the car that are complete garbage are Infinity. I don't know if there is any validity to those guesses ... just a feeling.

I have orion hcca old schools 5.25 component system. they are 2 ohm. these are the real hcca's not the mix and match one's from robot under ground. paid $600 new, will take $300+shipping

Most 2 ohm speakers are less efficient than their 4 and 8 ohm counterparts.

Because they are 2ohm, the extra power comes from more current and more current means more power compression due to heat.

More power compression means that you get less of your theoretical 3dB increase from doubling the power.

There are very few good choices in 2 ohm components.

Need more reasons?

Mine are under manufactures warranty. And Please show me which 87 dolalr speakers you're looknig at. must be refrence series

thanks for the details....

By the sounds it you know what you're talking about....and I get the feeling you're not too keen on the idea of using 2 ohm components unless they are quality. 50w x 4 @ 4 ohms just sounds weak... again, I am making assumptions, and have only numbers to go by, not real world experience in this century. =]

I checked the sensitivity of the Image Dynamics cxs62's suggested by James.... 91db. Does that component set fall into your 'very few' category? Can you recommend any other 2ohm components that are decent?

I mean, if it's just a matter of picking the right ones in order to take advantage of the amp, I don't mind taking the time to explore my options and picking your brains.

Thanks

The ID comps are in the "few" category, yes. They actually have a 1w/m sensitivity rating that is on par with the 4 ohm version. Not sure what you're giving up to get that but I've never heard anything bad about them.

50wx4 is plenty of power, BTW. Only two reasons to run more than that. First is to have a ton of headroom on a competition SQ system. The second is to get stupidly loud to try to keep up with a ton of bass. Since it doesn't sound like you're in either of those boats, no reason to think that you need more. Your amp is fairly comfortably under-rated anyway so I wouldn'tworry about it. I'd focus on getting the best speakers that you can for the money that you want to spend and not even look at the impedance.

thats really great....thanks alot for all the info. I'll most definitely be back after acquiring everything for advice on fiberglass custom enclosures. =]

That would be an aftermarket set of Infinity's that where previously installed by another owner,...Porsche come with Blaupunkt factory (that year)
