2 jl audio 12w6v2 with alpine mrp-m1000

My current setup consists of 2 jl audio 12w6v2's in a sealed box. Powering those is an Alpine MRP-m1000.

Speakers are wired to the mono amp to present a 4 ohm load to it. So according to alpine i'm putting 600 watts to the pair. 4ga wire from the battery which happens to be about 4' away. lol it's in the trunk on this car.

From what I've read the w6's are capable of 600w each.

Before anyones says Why didn't you buy a more powerful amp it is because I already had the amp and came across the speakers later.

I was considering buying another MRP-M1000 and rewiring the woofers so that they are 2 ohms each, and running one to each amp.

That would be putting 1000w to each speaker.

My question is do you think if I were to run full power to the w6's that there is a good chance of overpowering them and blowing them? I have heard that the w6's like more power than they are rated for.

Thanks for any advice.

W6's will LAUGH @ 1000rms

Personally, Id sell the amp you have, pick up a 1500-2000rms amp, and possibly build a ported box if you have the room. W6s sound incredible ported

But yes, they will take 1000 all day long every day no problem

Rather than sell the amp I have i'd rather just put in a 2nd one.

But yeah I just am hesitant to throw 1000w each to them.....

My trunk is rather large, but height wise is kinda limited....but yeah ported would be sweet.

personally I wouldn't advise giving them 1000wrms daily, especially not ported. Get the second amp if you want, but be very VERY careful with the gains. Don't wanna blow something
Would you think that 1/2 way on the gains would be roughly 600w on each amp? Is there any way to accurately measure what is going out of the amps?

you dont need more then 600watts pushing those subs.

i use to have a alpine amp powering my 12w6v2 @ 600watts.

i really didnt like that amp, so i got a jl audio 500/1 just to try it out, & wow compared to that amp.

my sub now sings, instead of buying another alpine amp you may want to look into sundown audioor

or even the jl amps.

i really like the slash series, for flexablity.

look around at other amps as well

firehawk618, what ever you do dont step down, step up.

you dont need more power.

sundown are really nice amps for the money,

jl 1000/1 would work really good as well, it's rated @ 1000/1 into 1.5-4ohm, you get the same rated power know matter what.

jl new HD amps.

look around before you buy.
