2 amps?

I'm looking to install 2 amps in my car. A JL 500/1 and a 300/2. I was browsing ebay and came across this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/JL-AUDIO-XA-PCS4-2-4-GAUGE-POWER-WIRE-KIT-FOR-2-AMPS-05_W0QQitemZ260003757453QQihZ016QQcategoryZ71528QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I was wondering if this was a good way to go. Does this run one 4gauge power wire to the distribution block and break that into 2 4gauge wires to go to both amps? I've never ran 2 amps so I'm kinda confused but I think it'll be worth it for my components.

Thanks, Rusty

back to the top for another ?

Well I bought one and opened it but to my surprise the distro splits it into 2 8 guages instead of 4 like I thought. Do you guys think 8 guage is enough for the 500/1, I figured it would need 4.

If the wires are short, it will do. It won't be optimal and I would make sure that the wire from the distro to the 500/1 is as short as possible.

It appears that I steered you wrong earlier. I appoloize for that. Another option would be to get a reducer and run 8ga out of one output for the 300/4 and continue with 4 ga to the 500/1. Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sound-Quest-By-Stinger-Power-Wire-Reducer-4GA-to-8-Ga_W0QQitemZ170013718246QQihZ007QQcategoryZ50549QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Its cool, I thought the same as well but this will work. Well I looked at it and it has 30 foot of power wire which I'm sure I can use part of for the 500/1. But I wasnt sure you should/could run an 8 out of one side and a 4 out of the other. Do you think it'll help to have the 300/2 off of 4 also?

The 300/4 won't draw that much current. It won't make a difference.

its a 300/2 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif hahah but anyway I guess I'll stick with 8 for that then. Thanks alot

one more bump for yet another ? since theres no sense in opening another thread.

Since I'm running 2 amps do I need to get RCA's with 4 channels? My headunit has 3 preouts for the front, rear, subwoofer. Will this plug into one and then hook up to both amps? Or am I supposed to get 2, 2 channels?

If you want to use the subwoofer level control of the HU (which will give you the ability to change crossover freq and level from the HU rather than having to go back to the trunk to adjust the freq at the amp) you will need 2 sets of RCAs. Run them at the same time and it won't call for any extra effort during the install, will add a good bit of convenience and will only cost the price of a second set of RCAs which you would have to buy anyway to run between the amps. Run two sets.
