2 amps, one sub

Ok, I have two MTX RT2200 amps (200 watts RMS into 4 ohms at 12 volts). Got a great deal on them, 100 bucks for the pair. I also have a JL audio 10W3V2D4 sub. It was supposed to be a D2, but the gal who sold it to me didn't really know what she had (ebay FTL!). The sub and amps all work just fine (tested at a local shop).

Dumb question:

Can I bridge the MTX amps, one to each voice coil? I would have to match the gains for each amp, and I came up with 34.6 volts using the tutorial on this site. The installer at the shop said that would be fine, it seems to be logical that it would work, but I would really like some more opinions on this, has anyone done it? etc etc.

Thanks for the help.

It can work, but you have to careful with your gains. They need to be carefully matched, and I would recomend getting some help if you are not entirely sure about what you are doing.

Excellent, thank you for the reply. I read the tutorial by Jmac on setting your gains. Since the sub is a 300 watt RMS sub I used that for my power variable in the Voltage = Sqrt (Power * Resistance), and came up with 34.6 volts, which I plan on backing down to 33 volts, just to CMA.

Again, thanks for the help! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Might want to recalculate that for each amp, using its RMS output. Then match the gains to a T on each one. Even though the sub is 300 RMS and the two amps together put put 400, set the gains properly for each one and you will be fine. Just playing music is not going to get the full 400.
