2 AA Assassin 8s or 2 rl-i8s?

Well, question in mind is not how loud they get, but which ones are "Smoother" perse. I listen to mostly rock(Tool, Fear Factory, Children of Bodom, etc...) and some R&B, but I want some subs that you can feel a good punch too, but aren't super annoying when they hit. I guess i'm looking for subs that have a good, smooth balance(If they even exist.), but have the ability to get loud on occasion and have good response for being in a small box. Not set off car alarms loud, but, loud enough to drown out noise of the highway since my car sucks with that. I was in a friends car who had 2 15" Power Akoustics I think they were and they gave me a **** headache after 20 mins.

Now I know it's the box that makes the subs hit, but from the threads I read when I searched, i'm curious as to if it would be better go to with the cheaper, and less powerful Assassins, or rock the rl-i8s and just keep the bass set at a lower setting? n00b question I know, but any help you guys could give me would be awesome. Thanks.

the rl-is definitely sound better, im not sure if they would get as loud as the assassins though.
Really? From what i've been reading it's the other way around, that you need 2+ Assassins to overpower 1 rl-i.

But i've also listend to some JL 10s(Not sure on the model, sorry), and they were very smooth and tame which I liked.

correct, the assassins are not that loud...clean but not loud, i wouldn't doubt it if 2 assassins = 1 rli 8, but 2 assassins are still cheaper

That's what i'm looking for. But like I said, if they can get somewhat loud, and from the video I saw from that excursion site, it looks like it will get loud enough, then i'll be good. I just wish I could head them in person so I could make an accurate assumption. Then again, at $50/ea its kinda hard to pass that up.

Ok. New question since i've been seeing sooo much talk about these subs, but the Alpine Type-R? I've seen them at best buy but never knew how good they were. Well, bang for the buck wise I hear they are a killer deal. Thoughts?

Put 2 8" assassins in the GF's car a month ago. She listens to the same stuff you listed above and some newer rap at times. They're in the "spec" box tuned to 40Hz and blend VERY nicely with her Polk dB coax's, but will mildly shake the car if she leans on them hard. Throwing 800watts to the pair. Hard to beat for the $$$.

You could also probably do the 10's as they're affordable and still don't require a huge box.

Give Chad at AA a call and see what he has to say, VERY good guy to deal with, knows his products, and you won't get any hard sale tactics.

They get loud (louder than my 12w6v2), but the bass isnt nearly as tight or deep to me. But yes they are bang for the buck.

So in all reality, they can just handle a lot of power?

And i'll look at the 10s. I'm still a n00b to how power effects these things and whatnot.

been said many times, they should be able to take up to 1K if u know what u r doing...

make sure u dont' buy it at best buy or they will **** you for $220 for one...

you can get one off ebay for $120 shipped new...

i say best bang for the buck subs are R's, tsw3k's, cvx's...

type r's are a very good bang for the buck, but there sq isnt all there IMO. I could sell you my mag if u want ive been lookin for a change anyway. PM me if ur interested.

RL-i's are bad-s little subs.

But the price for the Assasins cannot be beat.

Theres a cheap RL-i 10 floating in the classifieds.

REALLY CHEAP! Really.........

I have a pair of rl-i8s in sealed boxes getting about ~360w a piece; they don't get ridiculously loud, but they sound great, and I listen to all types of music. If money is a concern I would go with the assassins, because they are less than 1/3 the price and are still going to perform quite well. Of course if I put these rl-is in a ported box I'm sure they would pound really loud.
