2-8" in hat deck? suggestions?

I have a Volvo s60 that has four door speakers and two 8" woofers in the hat deck stock. I've replaced the door speakers with Morel Ovations and am currently powering them with an Infinity 111x4 amp.

I'm thinking of replacing the hat deck speakers with some more legitimate 8" woofers for added bass. I want to keep everything looking stock and will need to keep the trunk clutter free so this is my best option. What would be some good 8" to go in this location. Since the trunk is the 'box' I'm guessing this would be closer to a free air situation. I figure on another sub amp to give each 8" about 200 or so watts.

I was thinking of the JL 8w3v2 ($130 each) or CDT ef-80 ($99 each) but I'm not sure how well either would work in this situation. I'm looking for advice some people who have done similar setups.

Hat deck = Rear deck ?

How much depth do you have? Are the trunk tension bars under the magnets of the stock speakers?

hat deck = rear deck yes.

I have plenty of room, nothing underneath the speakers. The trunk is pretty big for a mid-size sedan. I'm 6'3" 230 and have been able to fit my whole body in it while working so it's a big area cubic feet wise.

The JL's would probably sound good, I've never been unhappy with a JL product.

Currently can't get the Assassins. Even still they want a box, not free-air.

The Image Dynamics ID 8 should suit the application well. Available in dual 4 or dual 2 ohm coil conficuration to open up you amp options a bit. Work well in an infinite baffle setup and don't need a lot of power.

yeah Image Dynamics ID8, also RE8, Audioque SD2 8, Crystal makes a nice 8 also. lots of choices
