can someone please describe to me what a 2,4,or 8ohm means or how it can be reached? i know alot about car audio except this! It is the only thing i can't help my friends with. i also have another question. What should i have my 1000w x 2 kenwood amp be set on to make my Kicker Comp VR 15 sound how it is supposed to. Right now on some notes it makes a popping noise and my local dealer said it was just cone movement but my friend's 15 doesn't do that. please help.

Ohms are an electrical measurement of impedence or resistance. They determine how much signal will be transmitted and at what rate. Typically, the lower the better- so long as your amplifier can handle the final load.

have a look here:

As for your install issue- yes, the noise you are hearing is from cone movement- howver, it is not supposed to do that under normal circumstances. Provided that the woofer has not been damaged (blown) we can try a few things.

Make sure your gain settings DO NOT exceed 75% at any time. - Gain is not volume, too much can cause clipping- which in turn causes damage. Symptoms of clipping are much like those you describe.

Keep the crossover frequency below 80Hz, too much high frequency can also lead to damage.

What about your enclosure? Sealed, Ported, Bandpass? Internal ft^3?

take it easy,

Note that speakers are rated "nominally" which means not in reality. The actual load the amplifier will 'see', depends on frequency, and box design. For the most part, a woofer will never actually meet its nominally rated impedence...

It also lowers the amps efficiency and raises the current draw.
