2 300 rms subs vs 1 600 rms sub

let the dude get what he can afford.navidalam, got to a shop that has the subs you can afford and listen to them and make a decision.
I guess I should have put it this way. Exactly what improvement do you think the OP is going to gain by going with the MTX 5500 series over his JBL GTO series? If he isn't happy with what he has, I would be willing to bet that there is a setup issue and something is amiss in his subwoofer/enclosure/vehicle combination. Furthermore, I would be willing to bet that he won't be happy with his next set of subwoofers either if he is just dropping them into his existing enclosure.

I'm part of the "been there, done that crew" and many times when I wasn't happy, it was my setup to blame, not the equipment I chose. Throw a ported enclosure into the mix and life gets really fun. Some subs sound better in a larger enclosure tuned lower whereas others sound better in a smaller enclosure tuned higher. As for manufacturer recommendations for any given subwoofer enclosure... Their BS "this size enclosure tuned to x Hz" or ''X cubic feet sealed" won't sound good in EVERY vehicle.

If you want good SQ, make a box designed specifically for the subwoofers you currently have. I guarantee that if you had one for those GTO's, you wouldn't want to upgrade unless it were for SPL reasons.

rockford t112d2 ... any comments anyone? ... which one will be better the rockford or a mtx tr7515? ... ill be using an alpine pdx1.600 amp and changing an amp is not an option ... man choosing the sub is so frustrating ...

This.^

I couldn't honestly see my self "upgrading" to any sub you've listed. IMO the GTO's are very good budget subs. They're also very efficient, more so than any sub mentioned so far. Put em' in a well designed box and they'll probably surprise you. Even in an spl situation given the power at hand. If you want PM me and I'll get you a design.

well my budget is around $350-450 ... and ill be using an alpine pdx1.600 amp ... so i want the best possible sub/subs within the budget to go with that ... from where i come from i can only choose between alpine, mtx, rockford and kicker ... i can either put 2 12inch subs (300 rms each) or one 15 (600 rms) ...
