Yeah sometimes metering and what you feel is loud are totally different. A guy metering 149 db with two 18" subs flat walled got me close to tapping with painful internal organ crush feeling. While I was sitting in another van with 6 zv4 18s in a 4th order wall doing 163db didnt even get me anywhere close to tapping, just a moderate headache/migraine afterwards.

25hz and under bandwidth will require you to tradeoff some loudness or more enclosure space.

i wanted to add....

what ever i do i would like to be able to switch them out for the hds3 12" subs.

i was told that if i build a box for my subs i could switch them out for the version 3 and all would be good.

as i was thinking, if i do that down the road i would like to get more power.

I'd deaden the whole car first and brace the roof with plywood. This really helps the output at the right frequencies that hurt you by lowering the peak resonant frequency of the car. You'll want the peak around 40 ish hertz after you are done deadening. It might be in the 50s undeadened. To find the resonant frequency get a normal sub in a sealed box(because its a linear response) and do a termlab frequency sweep. See where you resonant frequency is and plan your build around that resonant freqeuency. So if its 43hz, you'll want to tune anywhere around 5-10hz lower. This is just a basic starting point, you'll want to do your own testing for best results as every vehicle is different.

Build a wall with a means to adjust the port and tuning. Like a removeable slot port extension or removeable sonotubes where you can put in different cuts and lengths to play with the tuning.

Of course You'll be pretty loud at most of the bass frequencies with a well designed box but that 35-50hz range is where it hurts the most body(ear, stomach, throat and chest) pain wise from what I've experience with demos and my own systems. Anything lower is just lots of ear pressure and wind tunnel style bass that flexes the crap out of the car.

and ya i plan on making a small sealed box for one of these 12" and running a sweep.

the truck is 60/70% deadened.

if i wall it i will brace the roof with ply.

i need to put some deadener under my back side windows. only have a little bit there.

tailgate is done. inside and out.

ok im going to do the sealed box first to see were im at.

winisd shows 1.376 cubic feet for max flat response for an hds212

high 150s on music would require 6 for sure.

Seriously 157-158 with 6 12s and 6k isn't that hard..

Phasing is the key.

From the woofer to the dash you need twice the measurement for the rear wave before it exits the port and you get good results. If you don't have 1 k per driver 154-155 with 3 k is possible. I've done 153 with ONE 9515d series walled with 3k
