2 - 12w6v2 and 1 - 500/1 not performing

I have 2 - 12w6v2 and 1 - 500/1 and I am just not getting the output I am expecting. Would someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or put my expectations in check?

I have the DVCs wired in serial and then the 2 subs wired in parallel to the amp. This should produce a 4 ohm load which the amp supports. I have tuned the input sensitivity to 44.7V (jl recommended at 4 ohm) using a volt meter and 50Hz reference CD. My box is a sealed enclosure at 1.25 cubic feet per sub, the air space is not shared.

When I pump up the volume, the subs hit but just not very much. If I wire one sub with the DVCs in parallel and disconnect the second sub from the amp and tune the input sensitivity to 31.6V (jl recommended at 2 ohm) the sub hits hard, very hard. I think it could hit harder but I have not played with all the "nerd knobs" to tune the amp perfectly...

Any ideas why this setup will not perform with 2 subs??? I understand that each sub should get at least 400-500W RMS each but I have been told by a couple of installers that this setup should rock, hard! If anyone has this setup or similar could they provide their settings on their amp and perhaps a wiring setup?

This system is being driven by an Alpine CDA-9811 HU and I am driving stock components from the HU currently in an '03 Jeep Wrangler. Once I get this project figured out, the next step is to replace stock components with something better and add an external amp...

Any help is greatly appreciated. One more thing, these "installers" are saying that this sub will perform under a 1 ohm load even though the jl documentation rates it at 1.5 - 4 ohm. Anyone experience running a 500/1 at 1 ohm load successfully?

if you want them to hit hard wire it all parrallel. That amp is 1.5 ohm stable right?

I bet it could push 1ohm if you kept it cool. could also use a ported box. Best thing would be to buy another 500/1.

Indosia -

Thanks! I had seen a couple of galleries using the same setup and I was hoping I might hear from someone with the same setup. I kinda thought another 500/1 would be necessary but was hoping there was a different solution...

Thanks!

for real with 2 500/1 you be str8 crushin fools, like what? lol. na, your smart for buying jl, alot a fools think cheaper amps are just as good and that your just buying the name. There stupid. ANd there reminded of it everytime they get in there car.

Sheeet! LOL

JL is good warez! I am thinking maybe a 1000/1 to run both subs. Do you think I could run a 1000/1 at 1ohm safely?

yeah the 1000/1 and leave the subs connectors on the back the way they came shiped i messed around with them and found out to me it seemed to hit harder with them connected the way they came

Actually my back seat is out right now. I am planning on designing a box that will house the 2 subs and allow the seat to be installed at the same time...

Similar to http://www.sirgcal.com. That guy created a seat for 3 - 8" subs. Mine will be a bit different as the volume requirements are different. I just haven't figured it out yet.

Good luck trying 2 12's.... I can say now unless they have no magnet it is going to be near impossible unless you cut up your floor and move the back seat forward..

more power would pick up the slack a lot. other than that, look into your box design and check out how your amp is set up and if your head unit has some odd setting that is holding these things back.

here's the thing...your not going to get a big gain out of it the way you have it... the reason it hits soo hard when you only use one sub is the fact that your doubling the voltage that one sub is seeing... jl amps don't need to go to 1ohm.. as they are not recommended to go that far.... they have a smart power supply and put out max or very close to max wattage through 1.5 - 4 ohms..... when you have two subs on there each sub gets 250... but when you only use one sub it gets 500 alone...you need more wattage with those so get the jl 1000/1 if your wanting to stick with jl audio ... they're really nice amps....

That's what I thought. I am definately in the market for 1000/1 now. Thanks everyone for all of your help.

The box design will be tricky! I am not opposed to doing some funky stuff to make them fit and look good. I will post some pics as the project porgresses.

I have had bad experiences going down to 1 ohm on that amp. I would also take a look at some of those nerd knobs and get them adjusted to your taste because they can really screw up or improve your subs performance. Make sure the subsonic filter is off and that the bass EQ is off. Then play with your gains again by ear (be careful) just to make sure they subs are getting all of the voltage they need. If they are and it is still not what you are looking for get the 1000/1.

good luck

when/if you goto a 1000.1 be sure that your box is set up right, i had 2w6v2s and a 1000.1. they bottomed with about half power on the deck, i played with every single adjustment on that amp nothing helped i was later told (after i sold them and the amp) that it was infact my enclosure causeing them to bottom out
