2 10's or 1 15

So I'm looking to change my setup a little. I currently and running an AQ2200d and 1 AQ HDC3 12''.

Due to space limitations I can go with either 1 15" or 2 10's.... 2 12's wont fit well

I mostly am looking for SPL but I want it to sound ok (not great) too for music.

I was thinking 2 ssa icon 10's or 1 15 ssa xcon or 1 AQ HDC3-15

Which would be louder.... are there other subs i should consider?

I considered 2 hdc3-10's but what i found is the 12 doesn't really start to hit hard until about 1800 watts are put to it I'm thinking putting 1000w to each 10 wouldn't be enough to get them moving very much.

IMO, the BTL, XXX and Nightshade would be overkill for the power he has.

2 Sundown SA 10" or equivalent would be a good match

if he decided to go a single 15, then someting in the line of a Sundown Z series would be perfect, IMO

Of these which would get louder, the 2 10's or the 1 15.... I listen to mostly rap so sloppy isnt to much of a problem //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I see the 15 has the advantage of cone area 176.6 vs 157 but I've seem multi sub setups (even with cheap subs) get very loud.

Honestly I would let the install and budget dictate. If it were me I think would do 2 10" and use dual 2 ohm to start at 0.5 ohm. But it is really a 6 or 1/2 dozen of the other.

.5 ohm is my intent. Budget isnt really a problem... (within reason). I was really letting power budget drive my choices. I stopped at 2k watts so I didnt have to sink another $1K into batteries and an alternator. Y would you do the 2 10's over the 15?

agood heavy pair of tens will bang pretty hard in a well made enclosure,as i have experienced..i run tens..heavy tens..and out perform alot of 12s,and 15s..you can get a set of tens to really hit, hard enough to make your eyes squint, and make the back of your throat hurt..1.8-2.o cuft per sub,@30-32hz,and its very impressive..just a pair of tens in my handmade box@ 1.8cuft@34hz ported sends a db meter into error @ 140db on approx 7-900 true rms in 2ohms with no issues. im always asked if im running a pair of 15s

if i were going for a 15 instead,id spend the extra $50-100,and do one 18,or 4 tens would be very ideal,if you are wanting to get loud..four tens would really bang, and be so much more impressive in my opinion

The single 15 has the advantage of simplicity. When you add additional components you add the option of the complexity to add negative effects. I will say that at the moment I am buildin a single 18" system. So with that being said I don't think there is a wrong answer, but if I just spoke off my gut, I think a single Z15 would stomp 2 SA 10s

I'd go 10's. Smaller box, probably more motor depending on which 10's and cone area is basically negligible. If you get comparable 10's, it'll probably end up costing more though.

Plus... I like smaller woofers.

Like you I've run heavy 10's before with great results so i know they can hit hard. I actually did 2 solo x 10 on 2 zx2500.1's which put my explorer in the 150's. This will be my first setup where I am considering a 15. One of my thoughts with the 10's is I can only give them about 1000k each so I cant go with something crazy powerful or it will **** up half the power just trying to get it to move. The smaller box is pretty nice though.

Wish I could do the 18... I only have about 5 cu ft to work with. 4 + port and displacement. To do an 18 right you need about 6 cu ft for most subs I have seen.

Thanks, your right it is easier. Everything from wiring to building the box and cheaper etc. I have given that some consideration. 10's also have some advantages like using a smaller box. A 15 is best around 4 cu ft where the 10 work great in 1.5 cu ft but more planning in the box.

Why do you like the smaller woofer? Motor shouldn't be a problem. Either way I end up I'm buying a sub that is rated close to my rms from the amp and all of these brands underrate their subs. 10's would cost more but I'm ok with that.

Not to bad, is that just the 1 10 or a pair of them?

one ten..lol

Thats not to bad.

One thing I did forget to point out is this system is going in a Gen 2 scion xb. So there is lots of open air space if this makes a difference. I have heard the sytle of car can dictate the best size woofer but I'm not sure if its bigger airspace = bigger woofer or bigger airspace = smaller woofers
