2 10's or 1 12 in the trunk of my Civic.. Help ASAP!

I have a 2001 Honda Civic Sedan and I'm looking into purchasing a subwoofer. I previously owned a 10" Dub6 that I was pleased with but sold it because I chose to move to Hawaii for college.

I used to push about 750 watts RMS on the 10" and it handled pretty well and sounded fairly nice for being in a slot ported box. Used to put other 12's to shame at my high school but now I want something a lil bit louder with around the same SQ if possible.

I was looking into whether I should place 2 10's or 1 12. For now, I have a Soundstream SMA1.700D which is rated at 975W RMS @ 2 ohms/450W RMS @ 4 ohms. I will eventually upgrade the amp but that's after I purchase a sub.

Please give me some input on what options i have. I don't want to spend more than $500 for the woofers.

I know with my 05 civic ive tried to cut down on weight and space and am pretty happy running a single 12. Sealed its decently loud and sounds good. I'm about to go ported pretty soon and I'm sure it will loud enough for me.

Theres a vid on here of a guy running a single sub in his civic, off like 700rms and his roof is flexing. so getting loud on a single driver is possible. Hes running an FI Q I believe. maybe a BL

If you like SQ and want something louder than a 10w6 deff. go with a 12idmaxv3d4..... it should sound great and get pretty darn loud off of 900rms!!

I'd do this. 4 12's. He had it in a 2000 civic. Subs firing up in the trunk.

Kinda blows the idea of only $500 for woofers out of the water though. lol

I just received a Digital Designs dd1010 with a spec built ported box purchased on another forum and it outperformed two JL 10w3v2s that are each in a .75 cubic foot sealed chamber. The JL Audio subs sound a little cleaner but they have absolutely zero deep bass frequency output. The single dd1010 has a few rough spikes in its frequency response curve but has a much more solid bottom end than my JL Audio's. With regards to shaking the hell out of my 1997 Civic and perceived loudness, I never would have thought that a single dd1010 would have outperformed TWO JL Audio 10" subs.

Granted, my test is not scientific, but more subjective to my ear and the fact that the dd1010 shakes the sh*t out of my Civic compared to the JLs which I can hardly hear.

Well dd is made to be a high end spl sub, whereas 10W3's are low end sq subs...
