1st "complete" system

finally got a car i want to keep for a while and i'm doing a "complete" system, not just sub + amp + HU. need help choosing components and x overs and all that, this is all new to me. i will be doing this setup in a 97 explorer.

do u want to spend 300 on the whole system or just speakers/x-overs... if its just for the speakers/x-overs u could always look into getting the kind i have.. u can find them for about 230(maybe a lil cheaper) brand new online.... probly cost around 300 in stores...my JL VRs are so clean...to me at least, i havent had any problem with them at all... but if ur not a JL fan like the majority of the ppl here i would do a little research... go check out a "tweeters" if u have one by ur house... dont buy anything there though, they over charge so much... they will give good advice though

i've heard good things about CDT components, so i was thinking of getting a set of them from don, what do you guys think? what models do you recommend for the lower side of 300?

I believe the explorer has 5x7s in the doors (iirc) and so you might want to keep that in mind when choosing. I just installed a set of the jl vr's in my brother's car and was very impressed by their sound. You may also want to check into a set of oz's that you can find on ebay pretty reasonably.

You're going to have a tough time getting some 6.5's in the doors without some modification.

6.5s arent that bad to get in. I have a mustang with the same speakers. Just made a 3/4 mdf adapter and sealed it to the door. i had 7s in there and didnt have to cut any metal.
