Hi, I'm new to the forums here and I am in a confusing and disappointing mess. I'll start with the vehicle I drive. I drive a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis (Same as a Crown Vic). The music I listen to is Metal (Deathcore, Djent, Speedmetal, Grovemetal ect,.) The sound I am looking for is a solid punch from the kick drums, very similar to the punch in the chest you would get at a rock or metal concert.
Anyways, I went to "Migraine Kustoms" today to test out some subwoofer systems in my car. And they started off with a sundown 10' sub and ported box in my trunk with a 1200W amp. and when they started playing tracks through the system is sounded muffled and muddy as hell. There was no punch and it sounded like my trunk was swallowing all the sound. It was very disappointing and un expected effect. I know for a fact the the backseats in my car do not flip down and theres a solid wall that seals off the trunk from the interior of my car. It's also a really big car which I know is a HUGE factor of how a system is going to sound. But what I can't figure out is how I can change that.
The enclosure they had used was built and tuned to the subwoofers specs for proper acoustics. It was a slotted port off to the right side of the woofer when sitting in the trunk facing towards the rear bumper. I heard that if I port the enclosure or cut a hole in the rear deck to the trunk that it will allow the bass to flow into the interior more effectively. But I don't want to cut up my interior and not see much change.
Also, the reason I am certain the problem is my car and not the equipment is because the shop owners Chevy Tahoe had the same subs in a same enclosure and punched hard and sounded perfect. What I want to know is if a crown vic can be modified to not down tune the subs and rattle all the punch out because of the car's size. Any suggestions from any people with the same car/ musical tastes?
