1994 GMC Yukon with audio issues

I have a 1994 GMC Yukon with the original 3 piece stereo, CDM under dash and cassette with EQ. The cassette works and the radio head unit will allow volume controls so no issues on that. The CDM does click when power turned on but the only thing I get from radio is static. The tuner appears to work but only a static signal.

I purchased a used unit from a salvage yard and the same thing. cassette works just fine, great sound actually. No radio / tuner signal. I also replaced antenna and no help. I checked and fuses good. The dimmer switch does work and will control radio dial brightness.

Does anyone have any suggestions. The salvage yard insists unit was working 8 days ago when the brought car in. As I am getting the same issue from the one that was in truck and the one I bought from salvage yard I am thinking it must be something else.

Any ideas are helpful.

PS, I would put an AM stereo in but none fit in the stereo opening, they all get mounted to the right closer to passenger seat.

please confirm your primary concern here is the lack of a useful radio, i.e. AM/FM.

There is likely an AM/FM antenna booster in the vehicle that is between the factory radio and the antenna, see if you can track that down and verify.  if it fails, you won't get a signal.
