Ok, so I get the connector things and this particular model has a 6 pin adapter (power, switched etc), and then the 8 pin speaker wire plug.

Well, for some reason the pack came with a 6 pin adapter but no 8 wire speaker plug. So, I bust out the wires from the 8pin plug that the car came with and I try to individually hook up the speaker wires. No speakers work at all.

When I got this thing, the stock hu turned on, but never played sound. Now, what could be the problems here?

Two. One for power and stuff. One for speakers, and then the antenna.

I found this

1992 Ford Explorer Stereo Information

Constant 12V+ Green/Yellow

Switched 12V+ Yellow/Black

Ground Black

Illumination Blue/Red

Dimmer n/a

Amplifier Remote Blue

Antenna Right Front

Right Front (+) White/Green

Right Front (-) Green/Orange

Rear Speakers 5" x 7" Rear Doors

I even tried to wire it up just like that..... doesnt work.

Looks like you have a stock amp that is blown. Check for it in the rear of the vehicle on the passenger side(?). You will have to splice the wires at the amp in order to bypass it.

Its usually located behind one of the rear quarter panels which are the side panels in the trunk area.

Do a google search I'm sure you can find the location.

Ive been looking for some time now. When searching this problem before no one ever made mention of this amp.

Even then when I do look for it in particular on the net, there isnt much to be said. I agree its behind one of the quarter panels. But this one is not a special edition of any kind. I cant imagine it having a premium sound system (an option needed for the amp).

Who knows.Ill bust it apart tomorrow, thanks dude.

Thanks bud. I am going to work on it tomorrow. I hope I can find this sucker.

worse comes to worse, you can always run new speaker wires from the h/u. alot more work but if all else fails...just redo it =) you shouldnt need to though.
Totally thought about it, but honestly its not worth the effort.... Everything is power/automatic on it. There are so many freaking wires and panels everywhere. You ever been under the dash of one of these. Its insane. Would be tough to run wires. Probably a full days work for me.

To get to the amp you will have to remove the passenger side rear plastic panel. I just gutted the interior of my girls 92 explorer, its a 2 door though but im pretty sure it doesnt make a difference. I have a sh1tload of pics but not a single one shows the amp lol. I am running an external amp so I didnt have to worry about any of that part of the wiring anyway.

I googled it and found this pic:

that is a 97 but its in the same spot and will look the same.

Hey dude thanks I appreciate it. I hope the panel removal is easy.
you will probably end up breaking some of the retainer clips unless you have a clip removal tool. Between my girlfriend and I we probably broke half on one side, so I went out and just spent the $20 on the removal tool. The other side and the rest of the panels and headliner were extremely easy. I believe you will have to take off the bottom seat belt bolt as well to get the whole panel out, that uses a larger torx bit.
