ok i got everything off the dash panel and such, but i need to know which wire harness i need for 1992 ford explorer 4 dr eddie bauer edition. I went to circuit city and (leave it up to them) to give me the wrong god **** harness. I hate when ppl dont know wtf they talkin about i asked are you sure this is the right one he said yes. So later on im installing it come to find out that its the wrong one so now im not sure which wire harness to get. if any one could help me out that would be great. One side of the harness is a long Rectangle shape, while the other side is a small Square. Dont know if that helps at all.

Sounds to me like you have the "Premium" sound system, but they gave you the harness for the "regular" sound system.

I found the wiring harness for my g/f '93 Eddie Baurer w/ Premium Sound System (JBL) at Wal-Mart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

yea i believe thatsa what it is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Next time ill go to walmart maybe theyll know more than circuity city :p . This would be the one that i need right ? http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOFDK10

also it seems that there is a factory amp, how would i go about running everything off the headunit and not the amp ?

All Explorers are "premium sound" systems in the sense that they all have factory amplifiers. The Scosche harness you linked to will fit the plugs but retain the factory amplifier.

There is a Metra harness available for bypassing the factory amp:

http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=70-5514&x=21&y=12

The long gray plug contains power and ground wiring. The square plug is for the speaker wiring, and connects to the cable that carries the input to the factory amp. The third harness is installed at the factory amp, and connects the input plug directly to the output plug, taking the amp out of the system. (The factory amp is located under the panel on the right side of the cargo area).

This harness is the easiest way to bypass the factory amp in an Explorer, but its weakness is that it uses the factory low-level amp input wiring as speaker wiring. Another option is to just use the gray power/ground plug for the new head unit, and run new speaker wire to the factory amplifier to connect to the speaker output wiring there.

so pretty much it kind of Shuts off the amp so to speak? so all i have to do is install the bypass wire at the factory amp, and then wire up the harness' to the headunit and i should be good to go right ?

There are two plugs at the factory amp.

One comes from the head unit. It provides the input signals to the amp.

The other is the output plug, and contains the wires that run to the speakers.

You'll be pulling both plugs out of the factory amp, then your bypass harness will connect the two plugs together. The input wires will be connected directly to the output wires, and the factory amp won't be part of the system any more.

Your new head unit's speaker outputs will be connected directly to the speakers, through the bypass harness.
