For Sale is my 1988 Chevy Astro SPL Van, it was built by Steve Hann in PA. It is the old Speed of Sound van, the stickers are still on the sides. Some people who have been around Db Drags for awhile will recognize this van. It has been to World Finals back in 2001 and 2002. It has the 4.3 motor in it and it runs strong. It has an upgraded suspension, fiberglass leaf springs and coilovers in the rear and I think the front may be stock coil springs, not sure on that I have to check with Steve. For the system it has 4 Kove Audio Armageddon 18" woofers, one of the woofers is blown but I have 2 complete rebuild kits for them, I also know a guy that has about 15 of these 18" woofers left so there is plenty to be bought. For amps there is 9 US Amps 2000x's with the protection and SAT clipped out, at full load their output is roughly 3500 watts a piece with 2 amps per woofer. This is just for competition, on a normal basis they are turned down. But two of the amps are blown and I haven’t had it repaired yet, so 2 of the amps would need to get set to US Amps for repair. It would be 300 per amp to fix them, that’s what I was quoted on the phone. It will come with a Moroso Power Charger, it charges these batteries pretty good, the batteries never had a whole lot of discharge to them since I only went to 1 competition. There are 16 Brand New (as of July 06 ) Trojan Batteries, I forget the exact model number of the batts but I will add that as soon as I can. It will also come with an Audio Control SA-3055, I had this sent to Audio Control to get calibrated and had a new battery installed so it is ready to go and it has been plugged in, charging unless it was used to meter the van. It comes in the blue Audio Control bag along with the instructions and 2 mics, the standard mic and the SPL-180 mic, both were calibrated along with the meter itself and I have the box from Audio Control in case the buyer may need it. The van has a xenon body kit on it but the side skirts are not installed or painted obviously, I have them just never got a chance to install them. The rear door seals needed to be done so I cleaned the doors and seal areas and painted it all but I did not install the seals yet as the new owner may want to paint the van and it looks better to install the seals after the painting. I also have a new tube of 3M weather stripping sealant, it is supposed to be the best stuff to use. The van has an Ohio Generator alternator on it now, it has an output of 300 amps, and I have a second Ohio alt that can be added where the stock AC normally is but I don’t have the brackets for it and the output on that is 2xx, I need to ask Steve exactly what it is. The system is controlled by " The Lunchbox" its an old snap on/igloo lunch box that Steve added a radio into to be able to control the van from the outside during competitions. It connects to the van via an XLR cable(included) above the license plate(Ill add those pics tomorrow). There is also an adjustable regulator in the dash to control the charging of the batts in the rear. There is also 2 digital voltage outputs in the dash that display the current voltage of the front battery and the rear batts. Next to each display there is a switch to enable charging of both, and either or. This is done so that while the van is running the charging of the front battery is no existent while the full output of the alt gets sent to them batts in the rear, via the adjustable regulator. The normal van electronics couldn’t handle the 15+ volts. I had the van weighed on a truck scale, and it came in around 6000 pounds without me in it . . IIRC, it was awhile ago.
Im sure there is more I could add but I cant remember it right now, so if there is any questions feel free to email me, you can email me at: don.moore38@comcast.net, I am also on aol im, my screen name is bumpinford. I want to add this link, it is for the guy who built the van and competed with it in Db Drags. This is his stats page where you can see the scores this van has put up in the past, click here
