18" Sx as a DD?

would it be alright to run an 18" sx as a daily driver? im worried it'll be too much SPL and not very much SQ. i listen to mostly rap and occasionally ill throw in some sublime or older rock.

i have a kicker sx1250.1 to power it, and i plan on doing ~7ft aero ported box probobly tuned low, somewhere between 28 and 35 hz.

i'd like to out-do my 12" l7's, but i dont have the power for 2 15"s that'll do that.

any way an 18" SX will do this?

im not trying to sound like a newb, i just wanna get some (slightly;) ) educated opinions for you guys

Thanks alot

Joe.

haha if youre running L7's, the sq isnt too good anyways....The 18(one you are looking at for 225 plus shipping) is perfect for you, just make sure you have the trunk room.

I have run one sx 15 and 2 12" l7s, and hands down I would take the sx any day of the week.

just my opinion........

first off, i dont think you have nearly enough power to run a 18"sx, they take something like 5000rms so your going to need at least another sx1250.1 otherwise your hurting the sub.

but before try to make a switch from the L7s make sure theyre not out of phase, last install i did w a friend (2 10" cvrs) he was cranking the gains up wondering why it wasnt nearly as loud as his 1 jl 10w3v2.

You're deffinately thinking of another woofer my man. I've run an SX off ~400 watts and in a proper enclosure it is still loud as hell. 1000 is their rating, and I wouldn't throw much more at it - not because it couldn't handle it - but because there's no need to.

I think that he is thinking SOLO X.

Chinny had an 18" MT with an Orion 2500 and the box was tuned to 35hz. That was his daily driver and it sounded good.

Yeah bro I liked my setup for DD, didnt sounds bad it all and got LOUD. I would defiantely do something like that again if I didnt need the money.

To the original question, I think an 18SX, given the proper space would be a very good daily driver setup.

I also think however, that you'd have pleny of power to push those L7s assuming that impedences match up and you're able to wire the subs down to a 1 ohm load. I've heard a few setups with a directed 1100d pushing 2 L7s and it was plenty of power to get them going.
