As I mentioned about a week ago, I'm looking for some new subs to replace my XXX 12 (no, I'm not selling it!).

I'm sitting here with nothing else to do so I figured I would ask some of you guys that actually get to play around with a lot of different subs a question...

I want to go with a pair of 8s and I think I have it narrowed down to 4 choices. They will be going in a small sealed enclosure and will have adequate power (I have a ton of amps around and I can buy a new one if I need something other than what I can currently provide). The goal of the system is SQ. They only need to keep up with the CDTs up front as far as volume goes, though I will admit I have to turn it up a bit to overcome the exhaust note from the SRT (even with 2 layers of deadener). They finalists are:

-Image Dynamics ID-8v.3 (coil config will depend on what amp I decide to use)

-Ascendant Audio Assassin 8

-Kicker 8L-7 (I really want to know what people think about how these SOUND, not how loud they are, cause I really don't care.)

-Sound Splinter RL-i 8 (I would consider these once the new ones come out and I hear from some folks how they sound).

I don't want to hear about how loud they are. What I want are honest opinions on are the quality of the sub-bass that they produce. I'm looking for a sub with excellent detail and good low end extension. I listen to everything, litterally, from country to jazz, from hard rock to classical, from folk and bluegrass to rap and bass. Basically I need a sub to reproduce whatever I throw its way with great accuracy.

Timeliness is kinda important because the Assassin preorder price is only good for another 2 weeks.

Well, what do you guys think?

The Kicker's don't sound that great //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i disagree.. nice properly sized sealed box ive heard one set up the right way and i was really surprised

not necessarily saying its the best one for this application but dont rule it out because some people have heard a lot of mediocre L7 installs

In my time listining to the RL-i8, I loved it. Very smooth responce sealed. Output was so surprising ported. My friend is still using them in his Expo. Everybody who hears it is amazed on the output. But the idiot loves to clip it and I hate the way they sound now. They have been damaged beyond repair:crap:

I've only used a Xsite xs80, RE8, and the RL-i8. RL-i8 stomped all over each one 2 fold.

i remember a thread a little while ago when some one said that and polecat came in and owned him. there's a guy with 1 10" l7 i believe and he owns the sq comps all the time.

I'm not restricted to a certain amount of space per se. In my earlier post I pretty much laid out my goals. My XXX is too big and too inefficient. I want small and relatively efficient. The end goal is to get the utility of my trunk back and get my spare back in the car. 2 8's will give me the install flexibility that I need to get my trunk back. The enclosure will either be a fairly conventional box suspended below the rear deck or a coutoured enclosure glassed around the perimeter of the trunk. The enclosure will be tailor made to the specific sub that I decide on and will be a straight SQ alignment (probably really close to a Butterworth).

If I was going with a 10 I have several JL 10w6v1s new in the box at my house and that would be what I would go with, but I think I want 8s.

yes, Gary Biggs, but each persona will have their own judgement which they like, or dislike. I have no issues with that.

But when someone says they do not have SQ, nor do period, is usually when I come in and just make corrections from the history. But if he doesn't like them, there is nothing I can say, nor do, to make them appealing to his ears. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

helotaxi, I understand, completely. Just if you want to look at the box setup in WINsd, mock the CVX 10" in a .75 sealed...pretty nice, if that fits your space restrictions and power needs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have used the L7's and a ID8 before. The L7's will definately get loud and sound pretty good it setup right but they need more airspace to operate and the ID,s. The Id's need .2-.5 sealed per sub with .35 being the rec size. They have 15mm of xmax and move a good deal of air, plus they can play really low effortlessly. I can not speak for the others though. They also sound as good as any sub out there and work with very little power and do not cost much$$ !!
