18 inch sub

You want bump aka high SPL(sound pressure level). Well if you have around $1636.00 for four of Audiobahn's AW1805Q 18" 1200 Watt Ultra Excursion subwoofers.

You can check them out at:

They are DVC(Dual Voice Coils) at 2 ohms. Connecting the two voice coils of the driver in series (+ to -) will result in a 4 ohm load. Connecting the two voice coils of the sub in parallel (+ to +, - to -) will result in a 1 ohm load to the amplifier. I suggest the latter. Now you need four amplifiers to power each 18" subwoofer. I suggest the Orion HCCA-D2400 which is rated at 1200 watts x 1 channel @ 1 ohm load. They cost $350 each and you can get them from Woofersetc.com . You are also going to need four 1 Farad capacitors, one for each amp. Most likely you'll need two Optima yellow top batteries mounted in the trunk with an isolator, that way you won't ruin the battery and the alternator under the hood. The sub box will need to be 1" thick MDF(medium density fiberboard) which you can purchase at Home Depot. Make sure each sub has its own chamber and does not share the airspace with other subs when they are in the box. Also a crossover is suggested, one from Audiocontrol should do. Also an equalizer will help you fine tune your sound system. Well Good Luck with your sound system.

or he can SAVE 400 bucks and buy four brand new Qs.

You seem to know the model numbers. I would assume you did a bit of research on them. Are you looking for someone to make a decision for you?
