16v charge, 12v for the car, one alty, is it possible?

why would it wear quicker? still running the car at 12v...i will agree to a high level though unless you compete the advantages arent that drastic unless it was based off old meca rules lol

All electrical products are designed for a given voltage. In the case of DC, giving it more voltage will make everything spin faster, burn brighter. but be less reliable given that the engineer designed it for a certain voltage.

You can do a test. Grab a variable voltage power supply. Take a 12V auto bulb such as an old style parking lamp. Hook it up and start at 12V and adjust it upwards gradually. It will get brighter, but at some voltage, say 20V, it will be very bright and simply burn out. Same for motors or anything else.

Since, 16V is 25% greater than 12V, you can expect everything to last about a quarter less over the life of the car.

if 16 v made it to the car electronics it would toast it...... and 16v isnt 16v actuall....its over 17v. if you read the thread you will see there are ways to step it down for the actual car

thats why the hybrid has a 12v post and a 16v post. obviously 16-20v will fry your cars computer and all the other electronics that only take 12-14v. 16v is a great thing if you compete and it's allowed in your given class. im starting to compete so 16v WOULD be for me. but db drag street C says no....

anyhow. does the car have to be off to change an external voltage regulator for the car? and iirc my car stays on in street C and bass race in dB drag, am i mistaken?

strange......they didnt have me turn my car off in the last db drag event i was at when we did the spl metering
i better get me a nice *** deep cycle.....
Probably because it was a poorly run event (maybe a 1x show?), or they just didn't care.

But don't get comfortable leaving the car on. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Street c allows two batteries, maximum car OFF voltage of 14. Car must be off during db drag runs.

For bassrace, you can have the car on. 2000 RPM's maximum.

yup yup 100% right most cars running are over 14v anyway so he got a "booster shot" for a score lol
