15" L7 ftl???

so i got my 15" in a 4ft^3 box at a little over 38 hz... big box, big port

ima be running the zx1500.1 to it and i'm wondering if it's to much power with the huge ported box

my amp came factory faulty.... and is being repaired at kicker but never got to hook it up.

pretty much hooked my box up to my buddies zx750 and the sub was thumpin pretty **** hard and looked like it was almost hitting max excursions...??? i think the 1500 will be way to much with such little resistence from the port in the box and it'll be to much for the sub to handle

so now i'm thinking two 12" L7's and dumping my 15" with the box, and keeping the amp for the 12's

once again never heard the sub hooked up to the 1500 but the 750 was doing work on it, how should the sub handle the power in the box, and will the two 12's be worth it

yaaaa, it reconmends 3-6ft^3 and the bigger port also has less ressistance than like a 32 hz, or even sealed

so i'm way over doing the sub as the rms is only 1000 and the amp is 1645 with the box...

Bigger box lowers the power handling of the sub..
I think 4^3 for that is big but I don't know how much they require..
Why make the statement if you dont know..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif 4-4.5 is perfect for the l7 15s ported. To the op, you will be fine with 1500, just dont get gain happy. You shouldnt have any issues.

yaaaa i plan on running gains at right around 1/4, no more than half, with 0 bass boost

and after sub displacement, blah blah, the box is around 3.75-3.9 so lookin good from what i've heard

gain is not volume, what position its set at is irrelevant, its all relative to input voltage from your rca's

i know it's not volume, but that's where i get confused also

from what i understand gain is the relative output of the amp??? the more gain, the more output???

then there's something with setting it with the volume at where you'd like it???

Just set the gain right and you will be golden. Setting the gain is just using a DMM or setting it by ear. To set it with a DMM you take the RMS rating of your ohm load you are running at so just say 1500. You multiply that by the ohm load so with your amp I'm assuming 2ohms. 1500*2 = 3000 . Then you take the square root of 3000 which gives you 54.7. Take a DMM set it to volts and play 50-60hz tone and turn up the gain until you get the 54.7 reading on the DMM.

You could also just set it by ear. Put all the setting's on the head unit to zero, turn the volume up to 75% of the max volume, and then turn the gain on the amp up until you hear distortion, and then back down on the gain a little.

Just read through that thread if you don't understand. A search for gain setting will return ton's of results as well.

thanks alot man, huge help, if i have to use a dmm i will, but using my ears works pretty good as well??? i'll have another set of ears with me ha
