15" Kicker L7 box help?!?

Hey guys I'm a new comer to the car audio forums but not to car Audio in general.

I have a question for the car audio gurus!

I am wanting to put a 15" Kicker L7 into the trunk of my 2006 Scion tC. (I know I would have to completely remove the spare tire and anything else that will get in the way.) Anyways, I was looking on the Kicker website and the min. rec. sealed box volume is 1.5 Cu. FT. and the ported is 3.0 Cu. Ft.. I am going to get the box a little above the minimum recommended.

Which is a better box design for a spare tire setup?? and how would i go about building a ported box in the spare tire??

I pretty much have a design for the box if it is sealed, which is just a square with the dimensions of 22x22x9 which would give me 1.94 Cu. Ft. of space.

Is that plenty for that sub?? or do I need more?? The max dimensions I could go would probably be 23x22x9.5.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Greg

i'd give a 15 L7 3.5-4 cu ft ported, otherwise it might get peaky. you wont have enough space if those are your max dimensions. and unless you were planning on fiberglassing the spare tire wheel well im not sure where ur going with this, thats just my $.02

ok... So i searched all over the net and found some good resources on fiberglassing the spare tire well. And I think I am going to attempt it so I can get a bigger box and the most out of my trunk space.

My question still is, should I port the 15 or have a sealed box?? I know a ported box is much better for SQL and everything but will it be harder to port a fiberglass box then to seal it??

Thanks again.

sorry to threadjack superwhite06, but i thought id add a question while were on the topic.

im considering the 15" l7 as a single driver getting 3.5cu space before port. im unsure whether to tune the box 38hz or lower. what would be a good spot to achieve maxium SPL but keep acceptable SQ for daily driving.

A bigger box tuned around 35hz. It's not easy to make a L7 sound good, imo.
