15" Kicker CompVR - 5 cubes @ 30Hz

So Is Life
I'm sending knotslck $80 tomorrow for his 15" Kicker compVR. I plan to run it at it's max RMS (500w) with a 2 ohm load. It should bump. I've decided to put it in a 5 cubes box tuned to 30hz, so it will hopefully hit those lows like I want. Do you guys think it'll sound alright, or is this another one of those subs that "prefers" a certain size to sound right? I'll start box construction tomorrow, which means plenty of pics on the way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif I'll keep ya guys updated.

As promised, construction pics!

Here's the cut wood. It's cut so perfect because I had them cut it for me at my local hardware store with their really huge "radial" saw, if you will. Hey, it was free //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Looks like that's it for tonight, on the count of no more liquid nails tubes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Tomorrow I work 8am to 10pm, and then thursday is 8am to 8pm. What can I say, $ talks. I may be able to get something done thursday, but the hopes of anything tomorrow are slim to none. I guess I'll only time will tell //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Lunchbreak pics!

The black paint for the port

The other black painted side for the port, not yet glued to the main box. I figured painting it first would be best... Also shown is the interpretation of me on the shadow I cast.

More pics hopefully soon!

box is prolly a little bit big .....
Not really. It is on the larger end, but at the kicker website, it said compact would be 3 cubes before port, and the largest should be 5 cubes before port. This is 5 cubes with the port, so it falls under the largest by just a little bit. It's probably somewhere along the lines of 4.6-4.7 cubes before port. It should work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Last of the pics before I'm off to work!

Now just the lid, sanding, carpeting (if I feel like it, because MDF is sexy how it is), and finally wait for the sub to get here!

Peace everyone!

Be careful with that paint on the port. I suggest assembling the box and THEN painting the port. You don't want to use woodglue on sealed endgrain for one reason: it doesn't bond anything.

u sure do make box building look eazy...do all Lowes or Home Depot precut their MDF for U if u ask? It looks easy with the right tools. How much roughly were the 2 clamps and the caulk?? I Dont think I could make much of a mistake building a sealed box...

you can make any box without mistakes if you buy a design. and ya i think all home depots will cut the wood for you, some charge 25cents a cut after the first 2 or something though. still good since its alot better than i could cut it myself without those tools

I know, I made sure to sand the edges that are getting bonded down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Lowes will cut it if you ask, but it is 25 cents a cut (first 2 are free though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif ) I got off easy because karma got me that day. I helped an old man load drywall onto his truck. Then I went inside, got the MDF, had her cut it for me, and was like, "So, what is that, $3.50 for the cuts?" She goes, "Nah, don't worry about it." I was like, "Karma is teh shit."

Cute port //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Looks good man, when do you plan to install it?
I'll have you know there's nothing cute about this box, as it is very masculine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I plan on installing it whenever knotslck gets the sub to me. I paid him today, so hopefully it gets here by mid next week.
