14volt vs. 16volt?

I dont think youd be too worried about the max output the battery could do at that point...you'd be more worried about capacity, but yes...a single HC2000 could get you a good distance without charging

And nice looking bracket man! very nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so your concern is if the alternator fails? or if the belt breaks? Im trying to understand what yer saying.

either way.. I always drive around with spares for everything. So I think as long as you got the back up its very beneficial and worth it to up the voltage that much more.

I was saying if the belt breaks/something happens with the belt etc...and you dont have your alt's charging your 12V end of things for the car...I was saying the peace of mind of knowing you have the large bank of 12V batt's for your car to drive is just nice instead of having one small 12V batt upfront and then having to drive a good distance then shut-off your car multiple times to let it cool off and keep starting up your car with that single batt without it able to recharge..

Yea, now I drive with a spare belt and my wrenches incase that happens again

Every show I've driven to I bring 2 spare alternators, 3 belts, and a channel lock wrench set.

I've had some shit happen where I had to drive home on pure battery power and it wasn't fun. But I still made it and nothing else was damaged. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Interesting. what would cause a belt to just snap like that though?
More likely than not, they dont just "snap", they simply shred or tear from the extra grab the alternators have on them. It's happened to me before.

I'll have to carry an extra belt with me, buti feel like that would be very rare occasion with only one extra alternator along with a high quality belt

It really shouldnt, but with how I used to have it I could go pretty hard on the volume at low speeds and the alt's wanted to give me everything they had so the resistance goes up to get the output out of them...well, there wasnt enough friction on the alt's pulleys and basically did one huge belt slip and the belt starts going around the pulley setup in the engine like normal but the alt's pulleys are still 'locked-up' so to speak and the belt heats up really quickly and shreds.

But now I can't get it to do this thankfully, had an idler pulley put in near the AC-alternator for better belt wrap...even though before it had decent belt wrap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

And it is a rare ocassion that it'd happen, if ever...but when it does it's kinduva mess //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Only reason why mine did it was because I ran a crappy quality belt and one of my idler pulleys wasn't spinning enough to keep up.

I like the goodyear gator-back belts with some belt dressing.. Haven't had any problems for over a year now.

Careful with that belt dressing bro it will get in the bearings of the pulleys and freeze them up it happened to 3 of our idler pulleys on are diesel.

you may have used the wrong belt dressing. There's some made for v-belts or serpentine.. The one for v-belts is what freezes up the pulleys.. The serpentine actualy has a non de-grease lubricant in it.

And it gets flung on certain spots in your engine bay and dirt collects on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif...if youre looking to keep things clean

That could have been it cus i dont even know what kind it was we used.

weird.. the stuff I use is pretty nice.. its in an areosol can and doesn't dirty anything or ruin nothing. I like to keep my engine bay clean.. Gotta show off the chrome headers, GT-40 heads and intake.
