14volt vs. 16volt?

he is not talking about an inverter it is a step up transformer. I would also think that any 16v battery you go with you would need more than 2 batteries for 2 40.1's...charging system for a 16v battery would be right around 19v.for simplicities sake I would stay at 12v as in demo time has some engine off running off of ps while set up in a booth time.

The question is how much power do you need from your amps? If the two 40.1's at 14v don't give you enough power then the 16v would be the way to go.

Not sure the exact math, but I would guess you'd get 10-20% more power from your amps running at 16v.

I would just stick with 14v for everything. If you split your alts, then the 300a one running the 14v will be overkill and a waste. If you run both alts the same, you would be getting the most out of them.

16V is nearing the threshold of the car's stock electronics is it not? Because if you're maintaining 16V, the alt will actually be charging at an even higher voltage, might fry your car's shit. However, if it's charging at 16v, chances are while doing big draws you should stay steady at 14-15V right? Also, would having 14V and a 16V alternator together be weird? I don't know, with them charging at 2 different voltages, wouldn't that **** with some stuff? Is it possible for one alt to try and push current backwards through another if it's charging at a higher voltage?
...he'd still have the one 14.4V alt charging and maintaining the car's ish and the 16V alt running the audio ish...?

But yea, I think it's just so much less of a headache to keep everything at 14.4V for a daily setup, im glad I kept mine at that. With the car moving at any kind of real speed the output is just so nice to have both alt's on the audioz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

why? as soon as its set up, its just like any other electrical system....

oh, and someone wanna fill me in on why they have to share the same ground? As in, if i were to run a 14v system and a 16v system, why do they need to share the same ground? I was going to go all battery-to-battery connections originally, but i guess i cant.

I just meant it's easier...just everything's hooked upto one system, nothing's different about anything and everything's 14.4V and all charging is going to go towards your voltage being kept up for the audio, you have tons of 12V capacity incase you have alternator/belt issues (a big plus that's helped me a couple times), and just stuff of that sort...

Setting it up correctly can be a pain, but as soon as it is set up, it isnt a hassle at all, and can be very beneficial

How is it simpler? Either way its all the same thing as if it was running 12volt. Just higher voltage. Also I never run with engine off. And never will.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That is correct.

And on that, how much more difficult is it really? It's virtually the same thing as a 12volt setup just running at higher voltages. And literally its own system in its self.

Overall, I think it would be a lot easier running strictly a 16volt setup for the woofer amps since you dont have to worry nothing at all about the trucks stock electrical.

I want to get as much power as I can out of these. And it was either to run the dual with a switchable regulatro to charge at 15.4volts and still running through the truck electrical system. Or have it on its own designated setup where I can charge as high as I want and not have to worry about the stock electrical components.

I think Supergumby has somewhat a thought of where I'm coming from and how it can seem to be so much more easier.

...once you have some belt issues with a custom setup for dual-alts and you're out both of your alternator's (with the audio being a 16V setup)...youre going to be sitting there with a single (probably small, too) battery to run your car with...I'd rather have a bank of batt's and not worry about the batteries dieing on me getting to where im going (just have to stop every now and then to let the car cool off due to no water pump...which will mean multiple start-ups for your single battery..)

Mine was well worth the effort. I run a dual alt set-up with a HO 12V for the vehicle and component amps. Then an adjustable 16V HO alt is used to maintain the battery bank for my substage.

I plan on running a standard 250amp mechman alternator charging a kinetik hc2000 for the stock electrical, with the kinetik under the hood. 2000amps of battery is plenty for mids/highs amp and car electrical, especially with a 250 amp alternator

the 2nd 16 volt alternator will be ran to a battery bank of 16 volt batteries.

For as many alternators as i have.. If one ever fell short and quit on me. It would be very easy to just un-mount the dual bracket and put one of many of stock mount alternators that I have and just swap out the belt.

Plain and simple.

Look how easy it is for me to just un-bolt the hole dual bracket and throw a stock mount alt back in there. 2 bolts hold my dual setup to my factory mount where a factory alternator would go.
