What do I need to do to make sure my amp gets 14 volts consistently so I can maximize my amp output. I will be running an old Mtx Thunder 5400x 5 channel amp.

What car is it going into? What is does your alt put out?

Big 3 is going to be standard no matter what.

It's going into an old 85 caprice classic. I'm not even sure if 200 or 300 watts is enough for that trunk.

What TypeR said, do big 3 right, HO alt, nice battery. I run 14v consistently off 3800 watts, when I play full tilt test tones I hit 13.6v, but it's all good.

what its true isnt it? wire them in series and you should get constant 14v juice?

How big is your alt. Xploit? And are you using both batteries or just the 2400?

How are you going to charge them? When the 6v is done charging and the 8v still needs juice.. its going to over charge the 6v and damage it.

bottom line is that you are going to have to eliminate any and all bottlenecks in your electrical system, starting with the big 3.
