13W7: 2 Ohm Capable?

MY friend is gonna get a 13W7. But he doesn't wan't an expensive *** JL AMP. He;s lookin' to get a Alphasonik PMA1800A which is 1300 watts x 1 @ 2 Ohms RMS. Can the 13 W7 run at 2 Ohms? The specs say 1.5 Ohms impedance.

If the Alphasonik amp is stable down to 1 ohm then it'll work. Even if its not 1 ohm stable it might work because due to heat and friction, impedience rise occurs and the ohms go up a little bit, so 2 ohms is a safe place to be, just tune the amps gain with a DMM(digital multimeter) and provide ample power for the amp

The 13W7 is dual 1.5 ohm coils. Your amp will see a 3 ohm load so the amp will be fine.

one thing though...The CMPX215 has 1600 Watts RMS Power Handling @ 2 Ohms Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coils sooo...the power handling already kinda states what it needs right?

If the subwoofer is a dual 4ohm subwoofer, then it can be wired to 2ohm and to 8ohm.

If the subwoofer is dual 2ohm, it can be wired to 1ohm and 4ohm.

If the subwoofer is dual 1.5ohm, it can be wired to .75ohm and 3ohm.

Etc etc.

Learn it. Live it. Breath it.

Also, power handling is not a power requirement.

If the voice coils are wired in series it will. if in parallel it will be around .7ohms- dangerously low I think.

After impedance rise, it isn't any more dangerous than a 1ohm load.

If the amp is 1ohm stable, in all likelyhood it will handle a 13W7 w/ coils in parallel just fine.

Hey if you say it's cool, I've got no problems. I don't run mine that low, but then I like damping factor.

Damping factor of 10-20 is sufficient. Going any higher won't yield any increased audible benefits.

Any amp on the market worth it's weight in poop will have sufficient damping factor. It's basically a non-issue in all but the low end of the low end.

Yes.

But if he wires it to 3ohm he won't get the full 1200w out of the amp.
