13TW5 Sealed Box Sizes...Which size?

Hey Guys,

I just ordered my 13TW5. I am hoping to get it in before this weekend. This is going in my boat. It is accompanied by 4x JL M770 CCX, JL MHD900/5, and Pioneer DEH-P7200HD.

I have a closed bow boat, the 4 speakers are in the seats, 2 firing inward, and 2 firing at a 45* angle backward. I want to stick the sub under the bow and take advantage of the resonating sound under the bow.

I have seen different posts on this sub and people using different specs on the actual recommended sealed enclosure of .8cu ft. I was wondering if I should build the box to JL's spec, or make it smaller. Space isnt really an issue, and it will be getting all 500 watts from the MHD 900/5. I would like to make more of a triangular style wedge if possible, but I dont want to compromise SQ, so if I need to build it to spec I will...

Just wanted some thoughts...Also, which way would be the best for it to be firing, downward, upward, diag...

Thanks

just sold my brothers tw5 on ebay and to be honest it was not very impressive at all. $700 dollars of crappy wimpy bass (good sq though just not loud at all). Hopefully you bought it off ebay. we tried it in every sealed box from .5 to 1.5 and tried it firing up down sidways and no matter what it just didnt impress. ran it off a 500/1 in a ext.cab ram

Wow, this is the first time I've heard anything negative about it. I really dont want to **** up the bow of the boat with a ported box, and the 13TW5 seemed to be the best of both worlds. SQ is of the highest importance, so thats good to know. The JL 7.7"'ers really fill the mids out, while they lack a little on the highs, its only because they are directional and the way they are pointing, especially since they are only 6" off the deck, so I knew I was sacrificing a little with their location, but it really fills up the boats seating area. Was looking for a little punch so I can turn up the crossover level on the 4 speakers and let the sub do the work.

it sounds nice. just lacks any serious output. we sold it and are putting in 2 ssa dcon's when the show up in a week or two. not a bad sub. just not very loud , it was also in a pickup which are hard to get loud with one sub anyhow. hopefully you have better luck then we did.
