13 w7 + orion xtr2400 = ??????

Get a good amp off of ebay(older Orion, older Rockford, old PPI,**** near anything quality from the mid-late 90's will sound better)

Ive got 1 13w7 with 1 xtant x1001 going into my quad cab Dodge truck. If its not loud enough for me then ill install my other x1001 and pick up another w7.

And my w7 is in a sealed JL Prowedge box.

mr broke man.

he has a ORION XTR2400. that is an oldschool orion. and it will do a hell of alot of power.

see dude. i really think you are overestimating loudspeakers. a daily driver will rarely hit over 150db, and thats the extreme end of the ballpark.

im guessing the L7's were around 130db (if not, you had a serious problem)

so the W7 will prolly match that, maybe 135~140db. if you want serious bass, you are going to have to do more than put a sub in your car and put watts to it.

im sorry fella, i think you are over estimating acoustics.

As long as the w7 sounds better than the L7's i will be happy. with that xtr2400, would it be possible to run 2 x w7's?? because i was thinking that I could completely take out my 80/20 bench seat in the rear and have a box built you could actually sit on , be fully functional (seatbelts). Which way should I point the speakers? up, down, firing back??

wow, i must say wow..

i just read a few more posts about the w7. They were saying it may be better to buy 2x

13w6v2's. you can get two of them for the price of one 13w7 and they will move more air than one w7?? even though the w7 moves liike a total of almost 3 " it is slower than 2 x 13

moving 1.5" each?? plus they said that the w6v2 sound better (sound quality).. OMG i am gettting lost... i just want the truck to freakin boom... I can still get the w6v2's instead of the w7?? save me!!!!hahahha lol

Well it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that 2 13w6s will be louder than 1 13 w7 off the same power, and same kind of box. At the expense of space though. Do whatever you have space for. If your willing to sacrifice more space for 2 13s then go for it.

yes i have space, i have a f250 ex cab. i will just take the 80/20 split seat in the back and make the box so you can actually sit on it as a seat .. i know that 2 13's will be louder but i just thought of the 13w7 as a god or something... I dont cliam to be a car audio expert... i just want my truck to boom

No its NOT.This is old school Orion http://cgi.ebay.com/Orion-XTR-275-2-channel-300-watt-car-stereo-amplifier_W0QQitemZ5802175044QQcategoryZ18796QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Ask any older audiophile, most new stuff(excluding JL)is crap....

And ive had a few DD's that hit 150 db's(outlaw style).....

Nevermind, just took a look at your gallery....

qckgsr, get a good older amp(or JL amp) and you will be shocked at the difference.

hahaha,.... I'm going thru the same thing qckgsr! Was thinking W7 because all the hooplah but then read reviews about the W6's. I am choosing to go with the 1 12W6 for tighter better sounding bass. I have an suv. Both speakers will kick *** with proper power. You already stated you were going to have the box professionally done so I don't know why people keep addressing "depends how it's installed". Let your authorized JL dealer deal with it. Unless your looking to play old school Miami Bass Machine type CD's .... go with the W6's. Nuff said...

Plus L7's are good speakers. Sounds like you could save yourself some dough and just get a professional speced box made and face them in the right direction. There is no way in hell 2 L7's with that much power don't shake asphalt. Sorry,... this probably just makes your decision making worse... lol!

honestly, the two L7's can prolly outpound the 13w7 if they are both setup in sealed boxes to spec with that power. the w7 has dvc3 coils, so you will be down to 1.5ohms. the hcca amps are stable at 1ohm (and below iirc?) with 2400w RMS.the two l7's are (im guessing) dvc4, so they get down to 1ohm.
l7's = more cone area, and more power, less excursion

13w7 = less cone area, and less power, but more excursion

honestly, the L7's can sound great and get loud as hell in the right box with that ammount of power. before you buy different equipment, you should seriously look into the installation before giving up. if it dosnt sound loud enough, then you had it installed wrong.

plain and simple.
13w7 is 1.5ohm DVC
XTR2400D is 2400rms @ 2ohms.

I would *think* that if you ran the 13W7 with the 1.5ohm dvc's in series to get 3 ohms you would get around 1800-2000 wrms out of that amp. With that you should be fine with your gains set properly. Maybe I am mistaken but that seems like that setup installed correctly should wang....Pretty sweetly!

well, after a bunch of research , i have opted to go with the two (2) 13w6v2's d4. They will have a final load of 4 ohms, which will bring me down to 1200 watts / 2 = 600 watts per sub. The final load of 4 ohms will have barley no distortion. Plus the wattage will bring me right within the recommended specs. The box will be in place of the rear 80/20 bench and the woofers will fire down. The next question is ported or sealed. I have expereince with both.. i think sealed sounds better... but ported is louder.... any suggestions on boxes will be nice

Did you already buy the two W6s? because I would have went with the one sealed 13W7 for sure. Two sealed W6s will not get a lot louder than a single sealed 13W7. Infact... two sealed 15" Brahmas or XXXs won't even get much louder to the ear than a single 13W7. For a daily driver, I think running that orion amp at 3 ohms with the 13W7 will give you the best SQL for a daily driver using your space.

BTW.. I've had plenty of experience with a sealed W7 and it just puts out mind-blowing amounts of LOWW bass. I've heard both the W6v2 and the W7, and the SQ difference isn't enough for me to justify getting the W6s. Plus, the output of the W7 even sealed was more than enough for everyone who has sat in that car. And that was one sealed 12W7!
