I owned 2 10w6v2 and the SQ was Awesome, but I listened to a HO 10W7, WOW, gut wrecking smooth bass, But if you had W7 money to spare, wich one wud it be...?If it were me I would go with the W6 hands down.
Personally, I think the W6v2 just sounds more "natural". Can I quantify that any? Not really...it's a personal call and I don't fault anyone that thinks the other way. The W7 certainly has a lot of solid R&D that went into it.How much more can the W6v2 sound than the W7?
If any sub is playing midbass, then there's something seriously wrong with the installation...Does the W7 not have the mid bass frequencies?
It seems like your leaning more towards the 13W6From everything I've read/heard, given the same power, the output should be nearly identical with the W6 sounding better/being more linear (I.E. less distortion and more accurate sound reproduction). Have you seen the BL chart on the W6? It's ridiculous. It's perfectly symetrical, and hardly deviates at all.
Now a 13W6 vs a 13W7? In a perfect world the W7 should put out more because you'd be feeding it 1000W vs 500w for the W6 (going by JL's recommended power charts). But then it depends on the vehicle and enclosure, yadda, yadda.
I have the 13W6v2 on a 500/1 in a custom ported enclosure designed by JL. It sounds phenominal no matter the music (Classic rock, Hip hop, bass, latin music, etc) and FOR ME hits pretty dam hard. It get's my mirrors shaking and hair vibrating and I've had more than a few people think I have more than one sub. I'm probably not setting any SPL records, but for my daily driver, it thumps quite well.
Seen the BL graph on a W7? Perfectly symmetrical and pretty much perfectly flat. Means more motor power at higher excursion which means more motor control and less distortion. From everything I've read/heard, given the same power, the output should be nearly identical with the W6 sounding better/being more linear (I.E. less distortion and more accurate sound reproduction). I don't he will. Both will sound great and have impact. The larget cone of the 13W6 may play the lower notes a little better than the 10W7. 10's are more "punchy" than 12's/13's and 15's. But no, I don't he'll dissapointed with either one.It seems like your leaning more towards the 13W6
Do you think he is going to be unhappy with either sub?
I haven't seen the BL graph on the W7. I imagined it would be similar to that of the W6. If it's better, well then hell...Seen the BL graph on a W7? Perfectly symmetrical and pretty much perfectly flat. Means more motor power at higher excursion which means more motor control and less distortion.
Given the constraints of the OP, the 13W6 will win out. The W7 will have less distortion, but a lot less output. The W6 should still sound clean but it 1) has a ton more cone area and 2) has a more efficient motor (more BL in the middle). If power wasn't an issue and you were willing to sacrifice a good bit of fidelity, you might be able to get the W7 louder, buy why?
