12v remote

I just bought a hk4000d and did some searching and found that they may shutdown if the remote input is under 12v... so id need to run one some way other than through the radio (i think its 8-9v?)... read something about a relay... how do i go about doing this?

If you have an aftermarket headunit, the REM output should be 12V.

A relay is only really necessary if you are powering multiple pieces from the REM, to prevent overloading the circuit since their current output is extremely low.

I have an 4000d.The problem you are referring to has to do with the input voltage on the remote wire droping below 12v and shutting down the amp momentairly. The best way to defeat this is use a relay, this will give you the same input voltage as what is directly at the amp not what is coming from the deck.

These amps are serious current hogs so I hope you have a good alt and batteries to back it up.LMK if you need anything else.

yes

you could just use an accessory spot in your fuse box, just find one that turns on when the key is turned to on/run
ehhh... no i wouldent..

if you are really worried about it.. wire up a relay..

X2. I also own this amp and running the remote wire from a relay is the way to go. But like he said, hope you have a high output alt and extra batteries for this beast. I've noticed this shutting off deal too, but I think it was when I was burping it and the voltage was dropping down around 10 volts, thats with my Blazer off. I never noticed this happening when the voltage was around 11-12 volts.

As far as running one, go to partsexpress.com and look up relays for automotive use. They have instructions and also have the relay and harness needed for it. It's actually pretty simple to do.

Here is a site that tells you how to wire one up.If your amp still cuts off at high volume intermitinly then you don't have the proper electrical and can damage your amp and speakers.Get a couple runs of 1/0 pos and neg. and put a few batteries in the back.

I had the same problem when I first got one of these.I had a few batteries in the back to help but once I got my Iraggi I was able to go with less battery but I still have 2.

I am in the middle of swicthing to 16v.From what I hear these amps make killer power at16v!

Good luck.PM me if you have any questions.
