Alright, so I have a Kenwood KAC-9104D running my two Alpine Type R's. Bought this back when I was a total car audio noob, and apparently it really only puts out about 650W RMS at 2 ohms.
I know the Type R's can take some serious power, so I'd like to give it to them. So I'm looking for an affordable amp that will put out between 1200 and 1500W RMS at 2 ohms under daily driving conditions.
I have some nice high strand 4AWG power wire run right now, and if at all possible, I'd like an amp that doesn't need to be run with thicker guage wire. Amps that have fuses are preferable as well so I don't have to go adding extra fuses everywhere. Basically, I just want it to be a drop in fit to replace my old one.
From my research, it seems there are a bunch of amps in a fairly similar price range that will do what I want, so I'm looking for opinions.
Here's my list, but please feel free to recommend something I'm missing. I'm going for true power output, so if it's something that claims 2000 but puts out 1300, then that's fine.
No particular order:
Kenwood eXcelon X1200M - 1200W
Eclipse ZA1200 - 1200W
Hifonics Brutus BXi2010D - 1300W
Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 - 1200W
MA Audio HK401SX - 1800W (at .5 ohm)
Clarion DPX11500 - 1500W
Soundstream TRX1500D - 1100W
Infinity Reference 1211A - 1300W
Cadence ZRS-6500D - 1200W
Audioque 2200D - 1300W
They're all pretty much within $100 (ebay prices) of each other, so price isn't a big deal. What do you guys think is best? The Soundstream is the lowest rated, and I'm not sure about running the MA Audio at .5 ohms. I'm sure someone here will bash the Kenwood. But basically, they all seem like solid choices, so I'm looking for a reason to push me toward one of them in particular.
Thanks!
