12" kicker L7 ---> 18" Fi Q

My kicker is in a 2.0 cu ft sealed box right now. it was in a ported 2.5 cu ft. tuned at 38 hz, but i really wasn't happy with how sloppy it sounded. My question is, would an 18" Fi Q in a ported box have more SQ than my kicker l7? Or how about in a sealed box? I know it should go deeper, but will it be more sloppy because of the increased cone size?

i think you misunderstood, or i didn't word it well. I was worried that an 18" would be more sloppy because of the bigger cone, and therefore worse transient response.

As for everyone else, do you think the 18" Q will still sound better in a ported than the 12" in an sealed?

I think u should try the L7 in a lower tuned box. I had a 06L7 in a 2.6@32hz and it sounded dam good to me and still maintained spl. I would just try it be4 spendin money on a new sub.

Mass does not affect transient response, it affects output.
