10 cars you wouldnt think were gas hogs...

My conclusion is that an underpowered modern vehicle will overwork the engine and bring the MPG's down while an engine that is adequate to a bit more than that, when driven properly, will get the most MPG's from the vehicle in stock form. The 1970's low compression smog motors were the worst offenders by far in terms of ******* gas and not delivering on power. What most impresses me about modern sports cars is that light weight combines with powerful engines, that if carefully driven, will come close to delivering the same MPG's as popular economy cars like the Honda Accord.

Your mileage may vary...LOL!

I haven't gotten to read the whole thread yet but this had to be quoted for truth right here. Just cause it got a dinky motor doesn't mean it gets amazing milage. People need to educate themselves and get the big picture. More power doesn't always equal better milage and ultimately the aerodynamics are the biggest key in milage. As stated already Corvette Z06's with their "massive" v-8's or raw horse power get nearly the same milage as some accords or other "economy" cars, and I'm willing to bet a large sum the Z06 is a helluva lot more fun to drive than some economy car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

My truck gets about 15 at worst solo without a load, and I get about 18-19 hummin down the highway solo, and I weight 8,000lbs empty and got the aerodynamics of a a flying brick. I could only imagine if I had my motor in a 3-4,000lb frame.

My old 83 F250 with the 300 straight 6 and a 4 speed got 15 around town and then about 10-12 doing anything over 55. **** 4:10 gears outback with a 1:1 final drive in the ****** and a low reving big cid 6 banger. Thing was awesome for cruising around town though, great bottom end torque with short rear end gears. Mechanical limits of the truck was around 93mph (no governer) and with granny low I could idle at 3mph or floor it and max out at 5mph lol. Dang I miss that old truck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I get about 35 mpg no matter what...but I drive a little 1.5L Civic.

The only surprise to me was the RX8. I didn't expect it to be that low at all. Like said above, with that kind of gas mileage I'd rather have a Z06 or a "regular" Corvette. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
