1 Channel Amp Question

Hi,

I'm shopping around for either a 1 channel or 2 channel amp to run a single sub.

I would like to use the Xover setting in my head unit for the sub. All the 1 channel amps that i have been looking at do not have the option to bypass the xover. Is there a reason for this?

what kind of sub are you trying to run??
Not sure yet.

Right now i am looking around to get the best possible combination of a 8" sub and amplifier. There is SO much stuff out there that it can be overwhelming.

I am on a budget and need to spend $300 for both //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I know that i want total control from my head unit and this is why i want an amp where i can bypass the built in Xover.

because most one channels are class D and because of the way they operate they don't sound good above a few hundred hz.

Using the crossover on the HU and the one on the amp will just give you a steeper slope.

how will the steeper slope affect the SQ?

why dont they just make the mono amps with defeatable xover...i dont get that!

As stated above, Class D amps sound like crap at higher frequencies that's why nearly all have crossovers built in. Set your amp's LP filter to around 120-150 for your 8" sub and your other speakers can easily pick up from there.

i understand that they sound like crap at higher frequencies.

i just think that they should have the option to bypass the Xover for those who have built in xovers in their head units and want to have total control from the head unit.

Set the crossover on the amp higher than the one on your headunit. That way your headunit for example would be sending a 80hz signal, and the amp would be set at 100hz. Your amp would only get a 80hz signal defeating your amps crossover.
