the other day I went into a shop and right before I left, I got a pretty good revelation after listening to a worker of the shop's car. He had one 15 inch in a ported and vented box in a CRX and it was either a Memphis, Hertz or Arc if I recall correctly. It was pushed by an Arc 300.2 amp pushing 700x1 @ 4 ohms bridged mono. I was totally convinced that ONE sub absolutely can sound Amazing. I loved the way it hit and it has been a long long long time since I experienced anyone's vehicle hitting that hard with that kind of heart pounding thump. So I still have decisions to be made for my 95 Stang as to rather I want to go with 2 10's, one 10, or one 12. If just one sub I'd prefer one 12 although with the factory Mach 460 box in there, the box would have to be built so that the front to mount the speaker would be slanted because there is at most a 12 inch height allowance. So I've made my mind up to go with the Dayton audion HO 10's that require 0.7 cubic ft per driver.
just chatted with the tech, well I will copy and paste the conversation;

Hello. I am happy to help.
charles:
hi
i'm looking for the Dayton audio HO 10 inch sub that's a dvc 4 ohm
Chris:
that is this one
Dayton Audio RSS265HO-44 10" Reference HO DVC Subwoofer
charles:
ok hold on let me check if that's the one
ok there is a 10 inch one ,maybe just the 4 ohm svc that calls for 0.7 ft cubed right?
for vented box
Chris:
That is pretty small for a vented 10. Sometimes you have to be careful on boxes like that . Getting it tuned low enough to sound good may take a larger port than would fit
charles:
actually the specs on the Dayton Audio RSS265HO-4 10" Reference HO Subwoofer 4 Ohm says .47 for vented box
so the information is misleading or what lol?
Chris:
You can plug numbers into the program and it can tell you all kinds of things that may not work in real life, this is one of them,. You would be better vented in 1 to 1.5 cubic feet,
Sealed is the best for small boxes though
charles:
ok
yeah the guys on the forums, the audio heads most all of them said 0.7 for the Dayton Audio and that those subs love small boxes but
its a 95 mustang with a trunk so space is limited as I don't want to give up the entire trunk
Chris:
That is a great sealed alignment on both the svc and dvc
charles:
I will ask them if that was they meant vented or sealed but I'm sure they meant vented but you are the technician right lol?
Chris:
I do not recommend vented in cars, you can tune it high is output is all you care about, but in my opinion a sealed alignment is going to give a much flatter response in a vehicle
charles:
i heard a guy's CRX hatchback the other day and had one 15 inch either Memphis, hertz, or Arc sub in a good size vented box and was pushed by an Arc 300.2 amp @ 700w @ 4 ohm mono bridged. That dawgone thing thumped hard as heck lol
I wouldn't even need all of that what he had with just one 15
i would do either 2 10s, 1 10, or 1 12
ive always ran sealed boxes but have been out of touch past 10 years with an overall nice system so people were telling me vented and tuned was night and day from sealed. Can you give me a call
Chris:
A crx is going to be tough to beat just by its shape, box size matters too bigger boxes are going to dig deeper, I cannot call, but we do have techs available by phone at 800-338-0531
charles:
ok
thanks
are you familiar with the 95 mustangs trunk space
Chris:
Somewhat, there is not a lot of room if you want to use it as a trunk
charles:
not much
guess i will further investigate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
