08 scion xb box design help????************

ok i have 1 12" type R i want ported in the rear of a scion xb. should i fire sub and port to the rear? or sub up port to the rear? does anyone have any experience in this? also the box for 1 will only take up one side of the rear space, will that affect the sound? i thinkin about 3 cubes at 36 hz or so.... i dont wanna build 2 boxes so id like to know if anyone has some helpful pointers
