06' RE Audio XXX 18s or Soundstream XXX-18s?

Both of these drivers will be very peaky in 50 cubic feet. Are you planing on using just one 18? The RE might have a chance if you tune it much lower to have flat response. If you're just after high Q boomy box - ie lots of SPL right around tuning, then either will give that no problem in that kinda volume.
He said six 18's, I believe. 8 cubes per RE XXX 18 ported, net, is not enough, imo.

I agree the two subs in question are so different that we really have no idea what this install is meant to do. I would have guessed he would chose the SPL oriented driver, not the SQL sub... that needs notoriously large boxes.

again im going to tell you what your problem is..

using the wrong woofers and box for the application..

i told you again and again..

you want a response from 10-35hz you need to use the correct alignment and woofers..

your trying to get increased xmax but your killing your efficiency...

you don't need 45mm xmax.. you really don't need over 30 mm..

you simply need increased motor strength and a more controlled moving mass.. its going to take more power but you cannot vary QTC as much as you are and expect extreme efficiency without needing A stupid excursion or b getting a huge peak..

what you need to do is find a woofer with a alot of motor strength and a very low FS..

honestly there aren't many woofers on the market because its not what people want..

the best drivers i know of are most likely the TC sounds LMS ultras.. if you can get them with softer spiders you can get a FS around 14hz..

with a QE around .3.. there going to need 3-5kw and 8 cubes tuned to 16hz or so.. other wise your going to have to redesign a woofer built for your app.. which i can tell you i don't think your going to do it with a reasonable cost.

not only that but your going to have to be-able to design a woofer capable of doing what you want it to..

Ive decided to give up on the 15Hz-20Hz subsonic portion... it just takes far too much displacement to get overwhelming output down that low. I am very pleased with the sound, the FR curve being tuned to 23Hz so I'm happy with a fart box of 20Hz-30Hz. That being said, I am agreeing with you guys in that an SPL/heavily motored driver would be good in my app... huge peak at tuning.

I know the 2 drivers are totally different, I know motor topology, but Im simply saying I need more excursion and Im willing to sacrifice some things to get more excursion if the cost is cut in 1/2. I already know the RE XXX is what I need and have decided its what I am getting. I was exploring and exhausting the possibility of doing SS xxx instead at 1/2 the cost. But since I spent so much and worked so hard and I am so pleased with what I have now, that Id **** well better drop another $5000 on RE xxx.

4 for the van, 2 for the huge HT I built.

thank you guys a ton! youve been very helpful!
