05 RE XXX18 ?s

you can also run them in a sealed box with great out put
They like bigger boxes. The 15's like 4 cubes. I had my 18 in about 7.5. You will want to be somewhere around there.
Either of these answers is on the money. 5 cubes is defnitely too small for an 18 ported, and would result in a peaky response and lacking in low-end output.

An 18 sealed should yield considerably more low-end than a 12 ported.

I was waiting on you to respond;). I understand the low-end part, but will it be as loud? Would 6.5 after displacement work out to be ok for this sub? I had a Nightshade in 5.5cuft before displacement and it was great, but different subs will have difference characteristics

Peaky response generally means louder, but only in a limited bandwidth, which wont be the low-end. This is why many times SPL competitors use overly small boxes, they want a peaky response.

I may have to agree with you on that. It was loud, but had little high-end, and fell off around 33hz on the low-end.

Would the 6.5cuft enclosure give it a flatter response?

Here's some specs btw, in case you need them...

Thank you for the specs, I was looking for those. Whats the rec. sealed for the 18?

I know it works in sealed enclosures, but what about using polyfill in a ported to up the airspace?

4 cubes sealed for an 18.
Poly wont help much. Certainly wont make up for 1.5 cubes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Last question guru, and I'm done...... 18 sealed vs 12 ported. Same subs (XXX), same power 1700-2000, same car. Which would get louder and sound better doing it?

...... and would you know the mountimg depth on the 18?

18 sealed would probably be louder, depending on the 12's tuning. The 18 sealed would sound better, assuming you like a flatter response. My taste would chose the 18 sealed, no question.
