05 CVR 15 - getting it to sound right

I just bought an 05 CVR 15 and put it in a 4 cube box tuned to 35hz. It gets deep and loud while handling a decent amount of power (around 1000). However in its current box, it doesn't seem to hit the "punchy" bass very well... like techno, rock, etc. I previously had two 12" mtx 7500s in a 4 cube box tuned to what i think is 32hz off of the same power and they shined in the techno department and sounded good doing it.

Do you have any ideas how i could get this cvr to sound better/ hit the higher bass better while maintaining the deep lows without going sealed? Should i try tuning to 40hz and changing the box size?

Would getting another 15" and going sealed off of 1000 watts be a better idea?

was it loud sealed? i'm afraid of losing a ton of output

it was a long time ago, but as i remember it, i was pretty happy with the output. i definitely think its worth a try..

worst case scenario youre out 20 bucks for wood and a couple hours of labor

I had the same sub about same amount of power and i felt the same way just figured it was because it was a 15.

if your missing the higher frequencies, how is your midbass covered??

trying a smaller box at with the same tuning might do it.

from 63hz and up my Polk coax's pick up and perform midbass duty. All i changed was the gain going from two mtx 7500 12"s to one 15" CVR and all upper-range sub-bass bass is now gone

change box size and tuning, or add adequate misbass, like some midbass 6.5" or 8"

Sounds like the problem I have with my SE. It can get real deep, but I do not have the punchy, hit you in the back bass. I get more of that rattle everything in the car bass. I am using a 2ft^3 box tuned to 32 hz. I think RE's definition of "optimal" is very subjective. I think I would have been more satisfied if I went with their compact design.

My sub sound real nice in the small sealed box it's in. But I'm only giving it 600 watts of the 1200 watts my jbl 1200.1 can put out. I'm too afraid of putting the full 1200.1 on it. You should try sealed.

Alright, thanks for the reply. Is your sub Dual 2? If you are looking to upgrade, i may buy yours if it is an 05.
