Depends on if you run at 4 ohm or 1 ohm - I have a 150amp alt and been running fine at 4 ohm, have not tried 1 ohm where I dont have the electrical to support it. edit - I guess it would depend on what your subs are lol

I had issues trying to stuff that knu 8ga into the subs and the amp so I just soldered mine then ground them a little smaller so they fit good.

I am not sure as far as how new but it is more on if it supports digital file playback - NEX models, my AppRadio4 iPhone and iPods does not support anything except what is in iTunes (it converts them to apples codec), but mine are not jailbroke so I dont know if they will support other audio...

It sounded to me like it was missing output in places and peaky in others. I am not sure if it is because my box is on the small size of what is recommended for these 2 18's or if it is the cabin space of a van. As far as losing output, I dont think it did, but I also have not put a RTA on it...
